I have a camcorder and want to upload videos to my computer. Do you use a USB cable to do this? If not, what do I need?

Not usually, the usb function of the camcorder is usually for other functions such as using it as a webcam or downloading photos. You should be using firewire to transfer video, this is because USB cant offer a sustained date rate to transfer video without drop outs.

If the camera or optional docking station has a USB port, or cable that converts to a USB port connection, then I would suspect that is exactly what it is for. Typically, there would also be software provided for this purpose. But that would only be with a digital camcorder

If not, you may need to look into a video card that has video capture capabilities. In this case a direct video out from the camera can be fed to the card and software would capture (digitize) the video so it can be saved to your hard drive. You would typically need a pretty fast computer and lots of hard disk space.

as long as both the camcorder and your computer have usb ports i don't see why not.
