Well, that in itself should be sufficient reason.

Other than that, one of the reasons why I don't believe in the Christian religion is because of the rampant inconsistencies of the theology. An all-good God that created evil? An all-good, all-knowing God that created humans, knowing full well ahead of time that the greater portion of them would end up in Hell suffering eternally? Eternal bliss in heaven while many of the souls of the people you knew in life suffer eternal torment? How could one be happy knowing that this was the case.

Finally, the idea that a loving god would even send his created children to Hell in the first place is impossible for me to believe.

Because the famous gods make no sense.

I have no idea how we came to existence. The universe is much bigger than all of us can even begin to understand. The answer to how it all started can't be found in a little book, that's too easy.

Millions of years from now humankind will probably have figured out how out universe was formed. But in this era we really have no clue. All we have are guesses. We need real answers, and to find real answers, we need research. An answer that says "God did it" just doesn't cover it for me. It's way too easy.

"God did it" is really exactly the same as "I don't know". With one little difference: "I don't know" leaves room for more research to find real answers.

i'm agnostic, but some of the morals of old religious texts are outdated, the "science" is usually way off, and churches can become corrupt. We know enough about the cultures that produce religions to determine what is real and what isn't. General "God", as in nature, cause of big bang, even Creator, fine. I don't think any atheists would strongly object to that, even if the disagree. But 6,000 years ago, Adam and Eve? on your own time pal.

It's not just lack of proof, but lack of any substantial evidence. Same goes for anything supernatural. Not to mention all of the evidence against it, the proof of evolution, the contradictions in many beliefs, the improbability of many events that were believed to have happened, the religious diversity in the world, and the difference in solid scientific explanations compared to religious explanations. There's so much more.

Internally inconsistent ideas. Contradictory ideas. Impossible claims. Impossible to prove impossible claims. Hypocritical followers. The preference of tradition over fact. The preference of superstition over fact. The preference of magic (you might call it "miracles", but it's still just magic) over fact. The totalitarian models for humanity touted as things to be hoped for. The eagerness with which some followers look forward to worldwide destruction just so they can get their free "Club Med" memberships. The eager embrace of wishul thinking over fact. The idealization of xenophobia and ignorance as virtues. The list goes on...

It was once said that one may judge an ideal by its followers. The uses of religion by power mongers and the uses of power by religious groups have told me that they believe nearly exactly the opposite of what they claim to say.

(believe in what? religions? be more specific next time please ^_^) well... in one word, science. but you really should look into the ideas of atheism so you can gain a better perspective from both sides of the topic. i personally dont believe not only because lack of proof but because lack of sense. many religious ideas are farfetched and make no sense. also, past experiences in life tend to cause a shift in the way you think about things. curiosity pushes you to question things and search for answers. it gives life excitement than to just sit around thinking you know everything by believing in everything you read from a book.

Well, for me, the belief in god is so amazingly silly i can't understand why people believe it. Proof or no proof, the bible is very silly. And grossly inacurate. And poorly written.
Also, almost the entire old testament was ripped off of other, older mythologies. Seems the christian god needs to copy the other gods homework.

God is too mean and vengeful to be believed. He lets babies die, young people too... That's wrong... If Jesus Christ was his son... He crucified his own... Sorry! I just cannot respect this craziness!! And I know the bible has been tampered with by humans.. And he never shows himself! If he did in Ancient times why not now?? No, I don't believe!!

no proof is a good reason. why should i do something when im not sure what will happen? better safe then sorry i say. besides, the bible contradicts itself constantly, and it has been rewritten and translated countless times, so who's to say any of that might still be true?

From what I've seen religion is an ugly thing. It makes people hate each other. It seeks to control people and limit individuality. It opposes reason and science. It seeks to turn back social progress.

And personally, it does absolutely nothing for me. I don't need its comfort. I don't need its community. I'm just fine without it.
