Soooo many people believe we pray to statues.. worship the Blessed Mother, and we do whatever the Pope tells us too. Scandales have not helped, with the bad men that claimed to be priests, and past disciplines seem to have turned so many away from the Catholic religion. But how can we share what our faith is really about without discreprencies from the universal church distracting people. Is it time that Catholics stepped forward publicly and showed what our faith truly is? And not the way others hear rumors about. It surprises me how many people don't understand... it's like that telephone game. Should there be a movie or something? What will reach people positively in an educational and understanding way, without the many stereotypes. Movies like the Di Vinci code didn't seem to help... lol.

You can't really expect everyone to study all the intricacies of the Catholic. Do you know all the minute details of Buddhism?

It's true that Catholics don't really worship Mary and the saints in the same way you worship God. But Catholics do believe they have a dialog going on with Mary and the saints and that's very different than what Protestants do.

It's true Catholics don't worship statues but it's also true that Catholic churches tend to have lots of them.

Anybody who wants to learn the real story about Catholicism can read up on it or better yet ask somebody like you.

I don't believe that Catholics are bad "people". To the contrary they do stay married longer along with many other good qualities as individuals.

You can not deny that many Catholics seek physical representations of heavenly things. One lady sold a piece of toast on EBay claiming to have the Virgin Mary image on it.

You also can not deny that people kneel and kiss the pope's hand as they address him as "your holiness". Have I misstated anything as of yet? Not here to insult this person in any way.

there will always be hatred for Christ's Church because such hatred comes from a spirit of contention that comes from Satan. It is nothing new for man to think that he is superior or equal to God. the hatred for the Church is just man believing he can create a church better than God and being delusional in believing that in doing so they are pleasing God and being in His will.

Jesus created one Church and it is the Church spoken of in the Scriptures and the faith confirmed in the Nicene creed. considering the source of Catholic hatred it should not be surprising that so many lies are told and that people without the indwelling of the Spirit are so deceived and vulnerable.

Hey, great question! As a non-denominational christian, there are a lot of things that I am ignorant about concerning Catholicism. This forum is a good place to start. Earlier today I had someone from here contact me to help clarify things, and that is something you can do, contact other christians who don't know much about what you believe, and if they are open to discuss it explain things to them. We are ALL part of the body of Christ, and need to stop arguing about the differences in what that means to us individually. We all need to study our Bibles and see if what we are being taught fits with it.

Well, I don't know where you are from, but the catholics here do pray to statues, and kiss their idols of the virgin, and worship her. But they don't seem to follow the Pope too well even though they claim to be catholic..
I don't see any misconception, they just do those things and are very open about it.. You don't and that is fine, but you don't represent the catholic church in general.

I really do not think they can be settled because the people who have the misconceptions are closed minded and arrogant to the point that they cannot accept that they are wrong or what they have been told is wrong.

I have told these people the truth and have been told that i am lying and denying what i really believe.

There are misconceptions about every religion. I'm mormon, and I'm sure you've heard some stories about that. I'm also open-minded, and never judge Catholics by what I hear. Just educate people when they ask.
