i must say u start thinking in English... as what u think is on ur tounge. start reading newspaper loudly so that u can hear what u speak, refer dictonart for difficult words and keep noting new words....start seeing English movies programs, start by seeing news as they are simple.... u cant speak until u know how to spell those.. there is no time limit to learn it all depends upon u how fast u capture... start talking to frends in english if they laugh make a frend and talk to him... if u have a gf then its a best way as she wont laugh on ur mistakes and will help u..... i am telling u from my own experience... as slang has no proper standard...... and plz reply me with ur changes how u feel.... and regarding slang u make ur language slang... best of luck

It depends on you. The perseverance, like reading and speaking the language, would all depend on you. If you are motivated to learn it and you are somehow immersed-- because you are with English-speaking people, then maybe six months.

But why would you want to learn good slang? Maybe you're very young and you want to sound hip, so you want to speak some slang words. If you intend to go to university, don't bother about slang. Just read good books - bestsellers or classical books - and popular magazines and newspapers. I advise you to read "The Readers' Digest" weekly or subscribe to it. And besides reading, speak, speak, and speak the language always.
