Catholicism - 1115 million
Anglicanism - 73 million
Protestantism - 500 million
Eastern Othodoxy - 225 million
Oriental Orthodoxy - 72 million
What percent of the worlds Christians would you consider Christian? I hear a lot against Eastern Orthodoxy, like the Ethiopean Orthodox Church for using the apochropha, and many Oriental Orthodox churches for the same reasons.
If you are going to catagorize which of these groups are and aren't Christian, you bring the percentage of Christians in the world to a really small amount. But I constantly hear what a big percentage of the world is Christian. Do you count these other groups or not?
1.4 Billion: not protestant or Anglican
.57 Billion: Protestand/Anglican
Out of almost 2 Billion Christians in the world, only a quarter of them are protestant/anglican.
I'd like to hear your opinions on this. I know many Christians aren't judgemental like that, but we all see it on here enough.

Sorry about that Tonks. Okay then, 500 million, that makes the number even smaller!

Most non-Catholic Christian denominations accept the members of the Catholic and Orthodox Churches as Christians. A very few do not.
A dictionary would say that a Christian is someone professing belief in Jesus as Christ or following the religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus.
Catholics would fit this definition.
In the Nicene creed, from 325 A.D., Catholics profess:
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in being with the Father.
Through Him all things were made.
For us and our salvation He came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit, He was born of the Virgin Mary, and became man.
For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate; He suffered, died, and was buried.
On the third day He rose again in fulfillment of the scriptures: He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.
We accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. We are baptized as Jesus commanded in Matthew 28:19, "in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit."
We truly are spiritually "born again," we just don't usually use those words.
With love in Christ.

Simple - the Eastern Orthodox church has remained true to the faith established on Pentecost in 33 AD. The Catholic church split in 1054 AD and every other denomination has split from the Catholics - starting with Henry VIII, Martin Luther, et al.
There are some Orthodox churches like the Armenians, Copts and Syrians who are not in full communion due to not accepting all 7 Ecumenical Councils. However, they will be immediately restored to full communion if they renounce heresies and accept the Ecumenical Councils.
Because Protestantism and its offspring have allowed for localized control where each pastor is the pope, there has been a loss in traditions and ancient canons. Some Evangelical Protestants, missing the ancient canons and structures of the faith, have returned to the Orthodox faith under the shelter of the Antiochian Orthodox Church or Orthodox Church of America.
I have my own fear of the Ecumenical Patriarch as he is willing to sell out the faith to achieve union with the Catholics. That would create schism in the Orthodox church which has remained steadfast in her beliefs for over 1,974 years.

Because Christianity is not determined by what you call yourself, it's about how you follow the Bible. There are many sects that have some very anti Biblical views. Is it right to count them? I don't think so. LDS, JW, some Catholics.... I don't think they bear the fruit of Christianity.
Catholics are a strange one for me. The praying to Mary and the saints thing strikes me as worshiping false gods. We are to pray to God/Jesus alone. That is the most disturbing element of that faith to me.
But..... the other issue is that they get baptized as infants and then go about life any way they please, believing they're going to heaven. That too is unbiblical. A life must bear fruit and you must have a personal relationship with Jesus. I do believe that there are many Christian Catholics, but I don't believe that all Catholics are Christian. Mother Teresa is one in recent memory that definitely displayed Christian fruit.
In my experience, living in a small town, and living in Seattle, I met very few people that are actually living out the Christian faith. If this really was a majority Christian nation that would not have been the case. I met a few that went to church, but there was no sign whatsoever that they followed the faith. I meet way more people that don't believe anything.
Re: Rhymes -- Try reading your history books again, and not the revisionist ones. Your facts are way way off base.

Please do not lump the Anglican with the Protestants. We are a Catholic church too. Actually we are a bridge church between Catholic and Protestant. But to most of us, we are NOT Protestant. The Catholic Churches are in order of appearance: The Orthodox (all of them), the Roman Catholic, and Anglican (AKA Anglo-Catholic). The only Christians who are not Catholic are the Protestants. Only the Protestants do not have priest and a valid Eucharist.

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but religion is really not on God's hit parade.
Religion is for the most part a man made up theology with many untruths and dogmas that make the Word of God Void.
I am a Christian man about 60 years of age. All my life I have believed in God, but this did not make me a Christian. It took me to make the choice to be one.
A person becomes a Christian by accepting God's Saviour, Jesus Christ. Repenting of their sins, and following after Jesus Christ is a reality called life. You must turn away from the cares of this world and live your life in and through Jesus Christ.
Its a great life and gets better as we get closer to the Second Coming of Jesus Christ which is very soon. Don't ever forget that Satan comes first claiming to be Jesus, so don't fall for his trap.
Christianity is a reality, not a religion.><>
Don't forget. Jesus Christ became our Passover and we are just 11 days away from the Most Highest Day to Celebrate for all Christians.><>

because Christianity was set up from the begining to bad mouth the religion that it's based on, and that trend has continued on through the years...
Christians have to badmouth Judaism because they wanted to replace it...and how can there be something new when something came before it that was working already?
so....they have to make it seem like it was faulty
so too with protestants to the catholics...the catholics and orthodox came first and so the protestants have to bad mouth them to justify why it's ok not to be them anymore
it's how christianity began and it's how it'll end as well....always trying to replace and replace and replace....even when what's being replaced was never wrong to begin with

just because someone calls themselves christian doesnt mean they are one...just because they go to church doesnt mean they worship the real GOD...look at the example that JESUS CHRIST left us, and compare every self-called christian to HIM. no, we won.t measure up...but we should be showing some signs that we are trying. the majority of self-titled christians i meet dont act in any way any differently than your average atheist or pagan or witch. that is why so many people look at them and swear off "christianity" forever. JESUS says to test the spirits...meaning to test those who profess to follow HIM or who come preaching in HIS name. if what they say doesnt match identically with the bible (KJV is only modern bible in english to be trusted) then they are not only liars (and GOD hates all liars) but they are also taking the LORDS name in vain.

You forgot one! Mormonism: 12.5 million. Small, I know. But I definitely agree with you. Some people are just plain ignorant in claiming that those of us who believe in Christ aren't Christian. It drives me nuts having people tell me that I don't believe in Christ when he is the very center of my life. And, if you want to get down to it, Catholics and Mormons are the only Christians who have a leg to stand on. Catholics believe they were the original true church with the authority from Christ, Mormons believe they were the true church restored by Jesus Christ himself. Other faiths are just break-offs of those, started by men studying the scriptures and interpreting them their own way.

the true church probably only has about 7000. The true faithful have always been in the minority.
SATAN is concerned with having a large kingdom not God.
Satan counts his crowd, God weighs his.
