Does anyone know where the main sourse of tained food ended up because Nutro says none of the illnesses was from their products but they took it off to be safe. Also there was millions of pouches recalled, what is the chance that any given one was recalled.

This is what I recieved from PetSmart. It might prove useful for you.

If you have purchased any of the recalled items, you should discontinue use immediately. We recommend you contact your vet if you have any concerns that your pet may have been affected. Symptoms may include:

1. Vomiting (this is usually the first sign)
2. Refusal to eat
3. Fatigue
4. Abnormal increase in water consumption
5. Abnormal increase in urination

Hope this helped you as it helped me.

Nutro lied to you. I have seen blogs of people saying their cat or dog contracted kidney failure from eating the recalled Nutro pouches or cans. Go to Petplace.com and read the blogs.

As I understand it, if a cat ate any of the tainted food, symptoms will appear from 1 to 3 days. The severity also depends on how much of the contaminated food the cat ate and the age and general health of the cat.

I do hope your kitty is OK. Have you checked the date on the pouches of Nutro - is they belong to the recalled batch?

If I were you, I will never feed Nutro or any of the recalled producs to my cat ever again. Actually, I switched to Natural Balance which has none of its foods manufactured by Menufoods.

Apparently the organ damage occurs within hours of exposure; signs of kidney damage will show up in days, liver related damage might take a few weeks to appear. Have your vet check the cat as a precaution; keep records of all findings and tests, just in case.

Bear in mind that not every package is contaminated; they are recalling all batches that might be affected. Also, some individual pets seem to be more susceptible than others, for reasons that aren't entirely clear.

The toxin is not conventional rat poison; in fact it's a cytotoxic drug once used in chemotherapy but now out of favor because of 'unpredictable' toxicity (meaning some patients were badly affected and others not so much). Similarly, it was used as an abortion drug but also taken off the market because it doesn't always work. It's likely that the effect will be similarly variable between one pet and another.

Call your veterinarian and ask them to run blood tests on your cat. They will check for any elevated levels that may be a sign of food contamination.

It will take a while to find out, but at least it will help in knowing if your cat has been affected.

Cats seem to be having more kidney/renal failure related problems with the contaminated food.

As for the pouches:

The pouches/sizes/SKU/code numbers are on Menufoods site.

My cat ate the Nutro pouches too--I took him to the vet on Wednesday and they recommended doing lab work. I think you should do the same, just to be safe.

If you have any reason to think that your cat ate tainted food, then the best suggestion would be for you to take your cat to the vet immediately and get him/her examined. Why wait for symptoms? Perhaps when the symptoms occur, it might be too late. Why take the chance? Take your cat in and get it checked out.

Take her to the vet now, they can run precautionary blood screens and urinalysis to check her kidney function and liver enzymes, a cat only needs 30% kidney function for them to work normally so once showing syptoms has already lost 70% of their kidney function it's best not to wait until that happens.

Kelly,
I don't think any of us have all the answers and that is just why you should have your kitty checked out at its vet. This will put you at ease and if kitty needs help, well you can get that started. They might just be able to tell you over the phone what food was tainted.

I am by no means a vet or medic, but I'd consider something that would induce vomiting.
