Who you ask her later if she was better or okay~~~~ or would you take the attitude that "she's a big girl" and she doesn't need your compassion?

well - there might be two different ways to look at that.
1) not to be offensive to anyone here, but there might be some of the liberated types that might feel that way. just let them cry, have their moment, and they might be the type that just doesn't want to talk about it after it happens and move on. that's ok.
2) most women i think are like most guys - and it's good to have that caring hand or caring words during those times. most people like to be comforted and feel secure when they cry. so, yeah, i think that's ok to ask her if all is well. i had something like that happen to me way back...i had a good friend who was only a good friend, nothing more; but we were in this meeting and she said something through tears...and i just gently put my arm around her, didnt say nothing - but later i just checked in with her, and all was well.
so - i think there's two ways you can look at it; and it boils down to how well you know her and her attitudes. but most women would probably like to know that you care.

Definately show that you care. I've never appreciated the "big girl" attitude. Everyone has downs in life, and the rest of the world gives the "big girl" attitude. Friends are there to show that it's a big deal to them. Don't ask if it's "better now." Some problems aren't that simple. Just let her know you are there to talk to.

Give her some space, but also let her know that your there for her, a sholder to cry on. It may seem like she needs some space, but if you moved away then she might realise that she wanted you there, and then if you aren't then she might get lonley and maybe even more upset.

I would check in with her later to make sure she was ok.
