When a Catholic dies, it is nice to have Mass offered for their soul. To do this, you contact a local Catholic Church and request a Mass. The stipend in the Diocese of Toledo is $10. Thet is the traditional donation for a Mass, the money goes ( in our parishes) into the operating funds for the parish.
You can also get Mass cards from religious groups. They send out a group of 3-5, and you send the donation to them along with the name of the deceased when you use them.
The idea is the Mass is our highest form of worship, and so intentions for a Mass are the best way of offering prayers for the deceased- which scripture calls us to do, because there is more than just Heaven and Hell- there is, for most- a purification before one can enter Heaven, and our prayers can help that along.

A Mass card is a card stating that a Mass is being offered for the repose of the soul of the deceased, at the request of the person giving the card to the family of the deceased. Praying for the deceased has been an integral part of Christian life from the very beginning, as shown in the writings of the earliest Fathers of the Church, as well as the Bible (the complete Bible - Luther removed sections about praying for the dead). The person who requested the Mass for the deceased usually makes a small voluntary offering, about $10 is typical, to the Church, but the Mass will be offered as requested whether the person is able to make such an offering or not.

I don't know what you mean by money but..
If you're refering to the Holy Card's that are available, they are usually little cards with the deceased person's patron saint (a saint they chose when they got confirmed). It may have a prayer on the back or the person's name and the date of their birth and death.
They're little keepsakes to remember their spirit by.

Yes, Paul is correct. This is for saying Masses for the dearly departed soul. There is usually two boxes to check, one for Masses and another is for the family and expenses. It is up to the giver to check which one they wish.
