This is to the Christians who down atheists for not believing & preach with their Bible quotes. Don't you realize that no matter what you say or do, atheists will not change their views. I'm a Christian but to each is own. No atheist could convince me that there's no God, & you'll never convince them that there is one.I wouldn't disrespect them by trying. Bible quotes mean nothing to me so do you really think they'll make a difference to atheists? Can't you live like good Christians & leave them alone?

Kate-If you are right then I will apologize but I know screen names of at least 5 people on here who go off on atheists every day. Can you give me the screen name of 1 atheist who goes off on Christians?

Beano- Again you are right, atheists shouldn't be nasty either but honestly I've never seen one who is without being provoked. If you are right I do apologize

I'm curious...it's always been my understanding that Christians would be known by their good works...feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, and giving shelter to the homeless. I remember reading that Christ told the Apostles to go forth and spread the Gospel...but not everyone.
As for those females who are heck-bent on "evangelizing," didn't St. Paul say that women should be silent in the church?
Hmmm....seems like there's a conflict of interpretation to me.

Thank you for trying. I personally don't mind if a christian speaks up and shares their faith. What I mind is when they take a holier-than-thou attitude and remind me exactly why I think a lot of christians are hypocrites. There are several on this board that are good reflections of their faith, such as Father Kay, Michael, Eds, and quite a few others. Their good work seems to be negated by those who have an ax to grind.
For those that say it's a two-way street, well, it really isn't! Being christian, you hold yourself to a standard of being christ-like. Atheists do not! So, if you can't accomplish the standard you are setting, you shouldn't call yourself such!

Very nice. I think you've pretty much nailed it. I was with you completely until you said "Can't you live like good Christians". I hope by that, you mean good people who turn out to be Christians, rather than Christian people that are good at being Christian.
Also, there are some atheists that do begin to believe again. Such events are beyond my comprehension, but I don't think they had anything to do with people quoting the Bible, so you's still right in that way.

Agreed, although I would note that religious discussion - provided all sides of a given issue get airtime - is perfectly fine.
Also I'd note that there is a difference between rational, educated discussion of religion and simple put-downs - I've seen blanket insults on both sides, so it isn't just Christians being mean to atheists; it's atheists doing the same to Christians. Some people are just incapable of discussing things like grownups, and their religion or lack thereof has nothing to do with it.
(Evangelist Christians: If you are called to preach the gospel, preach it. Go out and do good in the world, and I certainly won't fault you. Sit here trolling an internet forum for people to quote chapter and verse at, though, and you do little to help your faith or the world around you.)

ETA: Late at night, I'm afraid, and I'm in a hotel room in Madison, Wisconsin, killing time 'til I get tired, so I haven't got specific names. All I know is that, speaking as neither an atheist nor a Christian, 'lolz xians are stupid' is about as prevalent, boring, and annoying as 'lolz atheists are stupid.'

I am a Christian and I think it goes both ways, because I have seen disrespect on both sides and I have had to work hard on many occasions to not become angry or answer in a negative way. I believe that everyone should be respected for their beliefs and I do that. I am also going to do the work that God has called me to do as a laborer in His vineyard. It is not my goal to convince anyone but to let them know how good God is and how it is so sweet to know Him. I love the Lord with all of my heart and if I reach only one person and help them to see that God is real and He loves them, I am going to do it.
I write this answer in peace with God's love. Be blessed!

Oh, come on! Don't pretend you've never ever seen those "why are Christians so dumb" or "Is it true that Christians don't take showers" type of questions.
Personally, I hold no animosity toward anyone, atheist, pagan, agnostic, wiccan, whatever. People are people. Some are good, some are not. Sometimes I get provoked and give a sassy answer, which is wrong of me, but let's please don't pretend that it's all one group bashing the other, when we both know it ain't so....or are you in some sort of "popularity contest"??
EDIT:
Imagine that! The very next question I click on proves my point....

Cursed are the peace makers, grrrr, grrrr, grrrr!
Hey if they were not posting bible pages what would they say. They would have to think.
It would never work.
The atheists would just get bored and leave.
Watching bible posters think is like watching paint peel.

The Bible tells us to speak the Word to rocks, trees, and other people. I ain't gonna sass back, but you go right ahead. We're not required to get a perfect response, we're required to share the Gospel. That's the Word, and it accomplishes what God sends it out to accomplish. Who are you to say no atheist will ever be affected by the Bible? Are you every atheist?

You forget there are Christians on here who are asking/answering questions of each other. That doesn't stop athiests or anyone else from answering those questions instead of just ignoring them. Can't they live like good athiests and leave the obvious Christian questioners alone? (I know this doesn't apply to all questions/answers, but it does to many.)

Did you really think you were going to get sensible answers with that condescending attitude? You're preaching tolerance, yet presuming to dictate who may or may not be interested in your "question." Most of these people might be drunk, but they're not all stupid!
