I have a bottle of jose cuervo gold, some limes and some salt..every shot makes me want to retch...
what can I do to make them taste better?

you could chill the shot or use a mixer to make a cocktail. Margaritas are one of the only way i'll drink tequila. with a salted rim the combination of tequila, salt, and lime juice gives you an entirely new tequila experience.

You don't need to hide the taste of tequila when it is a good tequila, it is sad that tequila has that reputation but I think little by little people are learning to enjoy 100% blue agave.
There are great tequila which you should actually sip and not just wait away in a shot, some I would recommend are Don Julio, Chinaco, Tesoro, Casa Noble and Herradura.
Shots are fun but if you don't enjoy the taste of tequila I suggest you do shots of something else or learn to enjoy tequila.
With that bottle of cuervo I recommend you do some margaritas...

You need a better bottle of tequila...as a general rule of thumb, the lighter in color, the better the tequila and the smoother it tastes. Try Patrone or Don Julio. Or just try shots of something other than tequila if it makes you feel that bad.

i never minded the taste of tequila shots. but try mixing it with orange juice and a splash of grenadine for an excellent tequila sunrise.
i think you either like the tequila shots or you don't. Shots of any alcohol are all kind of that way to me.
