From the questions that some people are asking, I am beginning if we should convince Yahoo to open up a few more forums ...
I think they should simply have a category under "religion and spirituality" called
Religion and Spirituality > Bash > Christianity
Religion and Spirituality > Bash > Islam
Religion and Spirituality > Bash > Israel and its Jews
Religion and Spirituality > Bash > Atheism and Agnostics
While it is healthy to inquire about what we don't know, I am really beginning to wonder where we draw the line between appropriate and inappropriate presentations of differing points of view.
Am I totally off base here?

Not off base...on the money! Disagreement is fine...learning about others is a good thing. But purposely insulting others of a different faith and trying to incite them to anger is just ignorant and serves no purpose.

When I first came here I was expecting something different that what we have. Now that I have been here for awhile I actually think that it is a good thing that people feel free to be so open. We can not really be in dialog with each other if we walk on egg shells and are politically correct. This is the Internet and we will never meet each other so people feel free to say what they think. There are community guidelines, of course, and they are not enforced well.
I have actually learned a lot from all of the arguing that goes on here, and even from the BS that goes on here. And hearing others being rude and crude has also helped me see what that sounds like to others and I have toned down some of my own bigotry as a result. This form is a wild and woolly place for sure, and not for the faint of heart. It has cause me to think very deeply about many things.

No, I do not think you are totally off base. I am a Christian and am greatly saddened when I see a Christian brother or sister bash anyone regardless of their views. It is not following Christ and I'm fairly certain they know that.
However, in their defense, I would have to add that what you may sometimes think is bashing may simply be them trying to get you to comprehend what being "saved" is all about.
I try not to take bashing from non believers to personally as I don't think they intend it that way. Some people are unable to give a rebuttal without the use of sarcasm. This goes for believers as well.
I suggest we try to agree to respect one another's views and not let ourselves get personal or disrepectful. We can't expect anyone to take our points seriously if we do otherwise.

Funny............. but I don't think bashing is what is really going on. I personally think religion is one of those categories that people take personally and fight very hard to try to be right..........you are talking about personal belief systems, it will always be a touchy subject and people get hurt and feel attacked by the responses wheter they were meant that way or not.

Yup. I for one think you're not even on the field. Gimme an *example* or *two* of what is so stressful for you. We see complaints about this all the time, but nobody gives examples.
Your inappropriate may be my appropriate... maybe even vice versa. It might even be that your inappropriate is my fact/truth.
[Edit]: Thx. PowerAnni, for the links. I had not seen Q&A's like those (one was kind'a innocuous). But I guess I think that the one-stop-shop of R&S is better than your suggestion. I think the really rude and inconsiderate ones should just be ignored. But if it ever got to the point that this was the rule rather than the exception, I'd probably just leave. Thx again.

A bit off base. If you haven't noticed, about 70% of questions here are asked from one belief to another, but the only ones of those we ever notice are the ones that are negative.
You're leaving out room to bash out many other religions, by the way.

Hopefully it is just a phase they are going through.
I expect yahoo to do a troll hunt soon. They seem to get rid of about 5% from here every few months.
