Low blood sugar or hunger can cause severe headaches; as the brain primarily needs sugar for energy and life maintenance.

That's why in the case of diabetics, with hypoglcemia or blood sugar, they can go into shocks, and seizures. By the same token, it's been known that too much sugar consumption ( hyperglycemia) can lead to raging headaches.

Migraine or cluster headaches can also attribute to headaches. So will sinus infection (includes pressure behind the eyes) , and dehydration.

Psychogenic or tension headches are caused by anti-depressants such as Prozac. and stress. A hang-over which includes headaches can be caused by too much alcohol consumption esp champagne. Headaches are known to be side effects of many painkillers. Lack of sleep can also cause headaches.

Other causes are early signs of brain tumors, and cerebral aneursyms; and hypertension or impending stroke.
