It's a kind of brain fever. It happens because of injuries to the head resulting in open wound infection of the tissue. The immediate symptom is blood flow from the ears/nose in significant quantities. Later symptoms are high temperature fevers for more than 4-6 days continuously. Treatment includes very strong drugs which can mentally incapacitate the patient if he/she recovers. if there is no recovery within 15-20 days, it is almost always fatal.
Prevention is the best way to combat meningitis, i.e. immediately after an injury, the victim must be kept isolated & the wound disinfected/treated constantly.
There are 2 forms of meningitis, one of which is much more deadly(read fatal) than the other. I've forgotten the names, you can google for it.

It is a bacterial infection of the brain.My son had it and had a cat scan done on his brain and it showed a pocket of pus on his brain.He had the viral meningitis which is serious but rarely killd like the meningitis you are talking about.The illness is often discovered in schools and day cares but anyone can get it.

Meningitis is an inflammation of the meninges, the layer of skin around the brain. Major H/A, red/purple spots called a petechial rash, fever. If you are sick and have the petechial rash, lie down,pull knees up to chest and now raise head forward, this usually causes major H/A feel much worse

Around the brain there are layers, these layers help protect the brain. Meningitis is the inflamation of one of these layers. It is most serious risk to those in college years and so some colleges require vaccinations. It is very serious and starts as head aches, dizzy spells, fainting.

The inflammation of the brain...
Can be caused ny diffrent reasons, virul and bacterial infections, could be contageous or not, can be caused by the tick bites, sinus and ears infections, and by other conditions.
Often can be fatal or debilitating.
