Go to www.littlebigcat.com and read Dr. Jean Hovfe's article titled "Why Fish is Dangerous for Cats". It is almost the last of fifty articles so scroll way down to it.

Now if you buy a whole organic (no hormones or antibiotics fed to it) chicken to roast for yourself or your family you can chop up a chicken wing into three or four pieces, add the liver from the chicken and the heart. She will eat this RAW and it is a perfect little meal for her - lean muscle meat, some skin for fat, calcium in the bone, Vitamin A in the liver and taruine in the heart. (Gizzards are rich in taurine too and they are VERY tough). Better than fish for sure.

NEVER feed cooked bones and if you cook the rest of these chicken parts you will destroy the taurine which is essential to the cat's diet.

As a treat or once off once in a blue moon it's fine, it shouldn't be used a lot or all the time as part of their regular diet. Feeding too much fish can lead to yellow fat disease (steatitis), from Vitamin E deficiency. Cats must have taurine in their diet & fish doesn't provide enough. Taurine is highly concentrated in red meat.

Tuna is addictive to cats so they can become fussy and will only eat that, for the above reasons, you can see that's not a good idea but it's fine in an emergency or to encourage a sick cat to eat something.

It is known that raw fish contains an enzyme, thiaminase, which blocks thiamine absorption in cats. It can have behavioural and neuroatonomical consequences for the cat.

Fish as treats are ok, but a strictly raw fish diet could be deadly to a cat.

They need far more nutrition than a fish can provide. Especially since fish is not natural prey of a wild cats diet.

Find yourself an organic cat food to keep your cat healthy.

If your kitty kat is a neutered male, go easy on the canned fish. ( Too much ash)

Here's some info.

I have a soft heart for kats. Some people say, also a soft head.
Food luck with your cat.

Make sure it's a low mercury fish. Cats are very sensitive to fish with levels of mercury in it, such as tuna, which should not be fed to your cat.
