A 16 foot truck with a gasoline engine or a 24 foot bobtail diesel. I am making a 1400 mile trip from California to Kansas and they are both rental moving trucks with the same load.

Are you considering the diesel truck is way bigger than the gas truck?

I know this one, for sure.

go with the diesel. Last time I made a long distance trip I had to rent a gas truck and it killed me. The fuel cost was double that of the diesel truck I normally rented.
I know the price of diesel has risen in the past few years but you will be way better off with the diesel. Trust me on this one.

The diesel. Please note that your rental truck will have commercial registration, and in some states you may need to purchase a "fuel permit" to purchase diesel fuel. Ask your rental agency about interstate registration and permits on the particular truck you get.
