Have you seen a doctor? Perhaps if you would he would help you to tell your family. If you are afraid that your family will say it is all in your head, they can't really do that when you had a medical doctor backing you up. If you are depressed it is in your best interest to see a professional so you can get better. Afterall this is about YOU and what YOU need. Good luck and know that many of us have been down the same road.

If you are old enough, go speak with your family physician about it. If your physician agrees with you I would set up a meeting with the physician and your family. If that is not an option I would go to the family member you can speak with the most candidly and tell them about it. Then they can help you break the news to your family. It may be that the whole family doesn't need to know right away and you, the family member you trust, and your physician can work on correcting the condition. Depression is nothing to be ashamed of. Many people suffer needlessly from it. It is common and can be corrected either through medicine to correct a chemical imbalance or through counseling.

Your parents will treat you with love and respect no matter what because you are their loving child. You are their miracle and hope. Even if they misunderstand, you have all the time in the world to work on your life and have them help you out along the way too! This isn't a matter of a disease, this is just a matter of getting the courage to open up to your parents, who love you very much. Your parents will never give up as long as you don't, trust me!

Don't tell them if you feel they won't understand. Imagine I went to a government clinic about my depression and the nurse laugh at me for being depressed at such a young age. Even a professional nurse can be so un-feeling.
Thanks to this nurse, I decide not to see any doctor again and I cure myself with some alternatives:
- Take tyrosine (a component of amino). It helps to boost your energy level and therefore motivate you.
- Take vitamin B & C to fuel your brain and combat stress.
- Get plenty of sun.
- Get plenty of exercise to sweat it out and pump oxygen into your brain. If you jog, run as fast as you can until you are out of breath before you stop.
- Analyze your diet. Not enough water or too much acid.
- Meditate by focusing your thoughts on your breathing. Meditate will strengthen your mind.
- Pray a lot. Have faith in the religion of your choice. Believing that someone powerful is willing to help you, strengthen your belief you will recover.
- Use auto suggestion first and last thing in the day : "Everyday in every way, I am getting better and better." Repeat the sentence any time your are free like traveling or waiting. Record and play it to yourself. Say it with positive feeling.
- Don't take anti-depression pills because the pills makes you sleepy but it does not help.
Try yoga with relaxing music in the morning and night. Your body is linked to your mind. Once your body feel great, our mind will improve.

The only way your gonna know is to do it. Just tell the honest truth no matter how crazy it sounds. Who's not depressed in this crazy world? Chances are your family has felt the same way at some point and would appreciate your honesty.

Go to a doctor and discuss it with them. Your family does not have to know and the physician can recommend medication or treatment maybe counseling. At that point if talking to your family is still aproblem then maybe you could have them talk to the physician with you. However you do not have to and what you share with your DR is confidential.

If your depression is very serious, your parents should be able to notice it.
Talk to a counselor or get some advice from your doctor.
You don't need to be ashamed of depression. As someone who has experienced severe depression from time to time, I have little by little overcome my shame. And now I feel comfortable and confident in sharing with people about my own experience. You'd be amazed how many people have appreciated my personal candor.

It's often best to tell them one on one, rather than a group. If you explain your feelings, they should understand. If they don't, there are always councelors you can talk to. Sometimes, with the right consent forms, they will talk to your family about your depression.

You should really go to your family and have them sit down with you and say. Mom or Dad i really need your help, im serious, i have been feeling really depressed lately, and talk to them for a while about it. it should work if not, maybe you should talk to a friend or ask a councelor.
