I think it depends what it is you are trying to accomplish. DPP is a pretty capable raw converter for canon raw files (cr2). If your goal is to convert a quick batch, this is a great tool and since it most likely came with your camera, there was no additional cost. Aperture on the other hand is much more capable. More in line with photoshop, but at a cost of dollars to buy it, time to learn it and complexity to wade through.
Since you use the term "photo editing" I'll go with aperture, but don't sell DPP short. It's a very capable program for it's purpose (raw conversion) and the price is right.

i agree with photoshop.
u can even try the latest cs3 beta for now.
u can turn nasty shots into werks of art.
youtube has all the vids u need.
