To maintain weight the formula is 10 calories per pound of weight
To lose weight reduce that amount and increase your activity level.
I would reduce my calories to 1200-1600 per day for a fairly significant loss each week. Remember:
To lose 1# of weight you have to reduce your intake by 3500 calories.

Dieting is a pain and can be difficult if you're starving. I would take your current weight, 263 and multiply by 10 which gives you 2,630 calories a day. For every 10 pounds you lose adjust downward, so at 253, you'd be eating 2,530. For 5'3", you will probably need about 1800 calories to maintain, depending upon your activity level....maybe a lot more. But right now I'd try to eat around 2,630 so you won't starve.

It depends on how much you want to exercise, but I'd recommends somewhere between 1600 and 1900 calories, in addition to light exercise such as walking 5 times a week for 30 minutes. Instead of 3 big meals a day, eat 5 smaller meals. Cut out junk foods, and replace them with more satisfing, filling and healthier foods. Drink more water, and drink it instead of soda. As you begin to get into better shape, increase the frequency, lenght, and duration of your exercise until you reach your desired weight. Make sure that you try new activities with a broad variety that will motivate you to continue with them. Good luck!

It depends on how many calories you burn. The bottom line of any weight loss program is you have to burn more calories than you take in. The more active you are the more calories you burn. This doesn't mean you have to go to a gym and use all the machines and such or run marathons or anything. Just get out and walk and you will burn calories.

A close relative was well overweight, and the Doctor placed him on a 1200 calorie a day diet, but it was very, very strict. He later on was able to move up to 1500, and for exercise he started with walking short distances, and increased the amount at a slow pace. There are many different diets out there, but to ensure good health, you might contact an agency such as the Heart Association.

Quit counting calories and just eliminate all white flour and refined sugar from your diet.
You will have to read all labels carefully but, you can eat as much as you want of everything else.
And go for walks on a daily basis.
This is a change of your lifestyle and should be permanent.
The flour and sugar have no nutritional value whatsoever, they are "empty" calories.

Less than 1000 calories a day. It takes 3000+ to maintain your body to function properly, so eat less than that.
