avi/wmv files to dvd?

can anybody tell me how you would put movie files on to a dvd? and on what kind of cd do i need to get them on there. give full detail.

You will write on DVD-R or DVD+R, you'll need a DVD burner, of course. Conversion program... ConvertX2DVD is probably the easiest, though it's not free. It has an older/free cousin called Divx2DVD which should work, but lacks menus and such features. You can also use the free AVI2DVD, but it's much slower.

you need a file converter to encode your files to dvd. Yo can use nero burning sofware. It converts your files and at the same time burns it to dvd.
