Color is premanent so there really isn't a specific time frame. The color will not fade by washing it immediately but it will over time. It is important though to let your nature oils build back up on your scalp and in your hair. After coloring your hair is dry.. so I would reccomend giving it at least 24 - 36 hours before washing. And try to deep condition it to help elminate any more future damage.

The rules of hair care state your hair cannot be washed 24-36 hours before and 24-36 hours after any and all chemical processes.

if your doing an at home dye job then you wash it out yourself. If you are getting it professionally done they wash it out for you and if it's a nice place they also style, you shouldn't go home and wash it again because they put nice products in your hair to help it. The next day you should just continue with a normal day of showering.
