Since OCD is a mental illness can the marijuana make the symptoms of OCD worse and can it also cause schizophrenia? No one in my family had or has schizophrenia but my 2nd and 3rd cousins have OCD.

Experimenting with any drug is dangerous and can cause psychosis sometimes. The only safe thing to do is to not use any drugs, even MJ. Sometimes people lace MJ with other drugs and this may cause fatal results.

Marijuana may exacerbate (worsen) the symptoms of mental disorders like OCD. However, there's no definitive proof that it will "cause" a mental disorder (OCD or schizophrenia).

It's not a great idea to do any kind of illicit drugs ever, and that goes double if you have a mental illness or any other kind of medical condition.

Im a "schizophrenic" according to various doctors there was no history in my family of the "illness" basically if you go to a doctor and say your having weird thoughts/senses and you smoke pot .. one of the conclusions they will come up with is that you are a schizophrenic ... don't be fooled and think it involves brainscans; blood tests etc etc its as simple as asking those two questions after being labelled with being a schizophrenic i would say no .. marijuanana doesn't lead to schizophrenia(i don't smoke it anymore) I would say that going to a doctor .. saying you smoke pot .. leads to schizophrenia .... the only difference in the process of becoming a schizo these days compared to hundreds of years ago is that ... instead of smashing your head open to get the demons out ... they give you medications which change your brain chemistry and also psychology change your views on the world ... and they keep you in hospital until you have became a walking zombie against using drugs ... I blame the uprise in schizophrenia these days .. due to all the advertising for the disease. my advice - don't go to a doctor...unless you know how to talk to them and their language

Schizophrenia usually occurs in your 20's in college students. Current research show that schizophrenia is correlated with great amounts of stress (college) a farmer moving to town(true story), ect.....

Statistics are extremely high that if you have one mental illness you are likely to have two or three. But I think mental retardation is the primary and schizophrenia and ocds are secondary, if you know what I mean

I would say no. Schizophrenia is a very complicated disease. My first cousin has it and his father had it. It has to be someone who has severe chemical imbalances. Usually showing signs in early adulthood. My cousin lives everyday life trying to cope. He is now 33.

Then why are you asking such a silly question? Don't smoke marijuana and you won't have to worry about it, will you?
