The last serious land action of the Civil War took place near Brownsville Texas - the battle of Palmito Ranch, fought on May 12, 1865. Confederate troops under Colonel John S. Ford repulsed the Union troops under Colonel Theodore H. Barrett.

If you follow some of the additional links...You'll find the last MAJOR battle....and the TRUE last battle....not just the Texas mention....supporting dates and documents provided within the web sites.....oh, there is even a naval vessel that was late on the news too...I'm sure they weren't floating around in a lake somewhere in TX

Dumb yankees tried to invade Texas twice. Both times got their butts kicked. First Galveston, then Brownsville. Guess they hadn't heard you don't mess with Texas. :)
