I have been a stutter my whole life. I dont like hand outs and prefer to earn my keep. I was just curious though if the governent offers any kind of money for stutters.

Check with social security, but I don't think so. I come from a family of stutterers. None of them got help from the government. One went to a speech therapist who specialized in stuttering; you can find them listed at www.stutteringhelp.org under "referrals." You can also find information on that web site about getting your insurance company to cover some of the cost. Other members of my family who didn't have access to a speech therapist bought The Stuttering Foundation of America's book "Self Therapy for Stutterers" and worked through the steps and, with determination and practice, all overcame their stuttering.

I don't know about being able to draw disability for stuttering but I did see this thing on Good Morning America a few months ago that was like a miracle for the girl that was on. She stuttered horribly and could barely speak. They put a device similar to a hearing aid in her ear and it stopped her stuttering instantly. It brought tears to my eyes. She is going to have a whole new life now. I can't remember the science behind it or what it was called. If you can search Good Morning America's website or possibly email them, they should be able to give you the info.

Check out www.speecheasy.com. I saw this device demonstrated on the Oprah Winfrey show. It is a very small device that fits in your ear. A young man who had stuttered all his life put it in his ear and within seconds was speaking clearly without a stutter.
I don't know about the government but this little device could change your life. Check it out.
