Okay, I know washing your hair every day is unhealthy for hair and can damage it. But does this apply to washing it without shampoo? I want to wash my hair every day because it gets quite oily but I also don't want to damage it.

I want to know if washing hair without the use of shampoo will damage it or not.

By saying washing without using shampoo, I mean .. just rinsing it so the oils would not be so visible.

If your hair gets oily then buy a shampoo specificly formulated for oily hair and see if it makes a difference. Washing your hair every day isn't really "bad" if it really needs to be washed that often.

You can switch to washing it every other day (just rinsing it on the off days) and it will actually make your hair less oily in the long run. Your body naturally tries to replace the oils which get washed away so if you wash less, then your scalp will produce less oil, but this will take a little while to change since you have already trained your scalp to produce alot of oil each day.

Changing shampoos is good too, since different formulas will leave in certain oils and strip away others.... switching things up a bit makes sure you are not stirpping your hair of the same things day in and day out.

I used to shower every day, wash every other. On the in-between shampoo days, I would run really hot water on my hair and essentially rinse off any excess oil, and then use conditioner. My hair stayed healthy, and did not look oily in-between shampoos. But that depends on what brand of shampoo/conditioner you use and how oily your hair gets naturally and the environment. If it's Summer outside and you are in the heat all day and your scalp is sweating then you can shampoo every day with a gentle shampoo. If it's winter and your hair is still oily, then you may just have an oily scalp and should also use a gentle shampoo every day. Personally, me and my best friend have always had bad luck with Dove shampoos/conditioners, our hair is two completely different textures and yet we always get the same response from Dove. At first our hair smells and feels great, but by the middle of the day, it goes completely flat and already starts to look greasy, then we shampoo every day and ruin our hair. I have used Sauve, White Rain, V05, Citre Shine, Redken, Paul Mitchell, Biolage, Pantene, Dove, Thermasilk, Mane and Tail, Infusium 23, store brands, and Aussie. Out of all of these brands, I have always gone back to Aussie. It always treats my hair the best. Pretty much all of the cheap brands contain alot of plastic as filler and that plastic eventually coats your hair and you'll have to strip it off some time or another. The longer you go on using cheap products, the worse your hair is going to feel and look and it will start to get unmanageable. If that is the case, then you can use plain old, non-moisturizing bar soap to wash your hair, rinse and repeat a few times then condition with a non-cheap brand of conditioner and never buy the cheap crap again. Hope this helps!

Actually, washing your hair everyday isn't that bad for your hair. Just don't get an "oily hair" shampoo, as that could strip your hair of the "good" oils. Look for a shampoo that says "gentle enough for daily use" on the bottle. Also, if you have oily skin, try to keep your hair off of your face as much as possible.

If you use a shampoo that specifically says on it that it is ok to use it everyday then you can. I wash my hair everyday and I use Aussie Moist. As for washing your hair without shampoo, I'm not sure what you would use. If you just wet it, it won't damage it, but using some other type of soap is still using soap so I'm guessing that it would have the same effect.

well if you want to wash your hair everyday, and don't want to buy new shampoo that is specifically made for washing everyday, use only conditioner on your hair every other day.

that way, it is still being treated with something (so it's not hard to comb and wont damage it).

nope it won't get damaged but here's a better alternative. During those days that you only rinse your hair, try putting conditioner w/o shampooing. My sister does that and her hair's really shiny.

in case you advise cleansing soap to bathe the dishes in (i'm Canadian, so I have no thought what "washing up liquid" is, sorry), then yeah, this is going to vanish the colour considering the undeniable fact that's an particularly abrasive cleansing soap, meant to scrub the grease off pots and pans. even although, it does dry your hair out, plenty. you ought to use it, merely use slightly, and be certain to apply an particularly reliable conditioner right this moment after and leave it in for a couple of minutes formerly you rinse the conditioner out. do not try this too frequently: if the colour does not fade right this moment, in basic terms use it as quickly as each and every 2 weeks or so: you ought to finally end up doing extra harm than the dye did. additionally, be certain to apply a time-honored shampoo, not one meant for shade-taken care of hair, as this form will preserve shade, and not fade it such as you want.
