Why build these huge churches?! why build these REALLY nice churches that you don't need, i mean its the idea of church that really counts right. Then WHY the big churches?! I mean seriously why not donate to idk, good causes like helping illiminate aids in africa or someting along the lines? but i mean just to double the size of your church?! i understand if it has grown in population, but otherwise makes me mad. God said in the bible he did NOT want monuments, statues nor anything along the lines, he just wanted the belief of his children!

It doesn't matter. God isn't confined to walls of churches. He's everywhere. Go ahead and get mad. Christians donate more time, effort, and money to charitable causes than any other people group in the entire WORLD.

However, I do find it ironic that you only pick on Christians. Do you not realize there are HUGE mosques and temples too? It's okay though, we Christians are used to it. It's been happening for 2,000 years.

Sometimes you need a bigger building not to have a status symbol but to provide room for the people. Our church is only 6 years old and we already are out of room for the outreach programs, youth group, children's ministry, and meetings. The building is rarely empty and it's not just so we can say, "Oh look at us, how great we are." It's because someone is always working on the something for the community or the people who need help in the church. The more organized the church, the greater the chances your going to need a bigger building. You can't reach a city the size of, say, Houston from your living room.

I like big churches but it is true that they should put the money to charity. Churches do give some money to charity. I havent seen to many churches expand in size for no reason though, I mean if there was no reason then maybe the congregation might not want that since they are happy with the church as it is ( Athough that is my opinion) So I agree that churches shouldn't use money to expand for no reason.

I agree that most churches are wasteful. Even if the population increases, you only need to increase the square footage "horizontally". Most church ceilings soar to ridiculous heights that not only don't offer any practical room expansion, but end up costing enormous amounts of money just to heat and cool it. It's extremely wasteful, showy, and pretentious in my opinion. Our resources should be put to better use than making a grandstand for us to pray in. When you truly believe that God is everywhere, you don't need to show off in a church.

I agree that they are spending way too much money on church buildings. However, the temple in the Old Testament was very elaborate.

Catholic churches are not simply meeting places for Sunday worship. They actually and physically house the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. As such, it's only fitting that He be housed in a nice place, and not in a barn.

Most Catholic churches are not huge. Some are quite small, in fact, and some are quite austere.

But whether they are built to be austere or built to be more ornate, they are built with respect for their Guest in mind.

How our houses and offices look tell a great deal about ourselves, our priorities, and our attitude toward life in general. In the same way, the physical appearance of our churches tell people a lot about how we feel about God.

you should do more studies of the "tithe"(of the old testament), it goes against the new testament. but yet, preachers who get a salary to preach, preach about how it is written to tithe to the church (they leave out the part where when you tithe it should be to widows and orphans)

that's where my money goes, to the needy, not the church!

Silly thing to even say. My church is big because more and more people give their lives to Jesus every week. Our church is not even big enough yet. We are building it for the people who will come, not only to existing believers.
