It depends on if the mother was well vaccinated. If she was, the puppy will have antibodies from the mother, and won't need shots right away. Most vets usually start about about 8-9 weeks old because that's right before the maternal antibodies wear off. The shots are give every 3-4 weeks until the puppy is 12-14 weeks old. Sometimes with bigger breeds they may give a 16 week shot to ensure they're fully vaccinated.

6 weeks is the best age to start their first set of puppy shots. By 6 weeks their maternal antibodies have wore off and they become susceptible to parvo and other deadly viruses. You will get a set at 6 weeks, then 10 weeks, then 14 weeks will be your final set and the pup can get its rabies.
