Er.... most are openly Christian. You practically can't get elected in the United States without some reference to a belief in the Judeo-Christian God.

You must not live in the Bible belt. In many areas in the Bible Belt, especially rural areas every candidate is openly a Christian. And this is true of every political party.
I am not making this up but is an often occurance.

A better question is... could a non-Christian ever be elected president? We've only even had one Catholic president. Being ostentatiously Christian is practically a prerequisite for US politics.
