I'm shopping for a new or used car and need advice/help deciding on what to buy. Quality and dependability is number one priority, but I also want good fuel economy (25-35 MPG), 4 doors, and a decent amount of power (I don't want anything too sluggish). Price has to be less than $16,000, and no more than 40,000 miles if used.

I think that Hondas, Accord or Civic sedan, are really great cars. They have good gas mileage and they are very dependable. I've had driven alot of different cars (Misubishi Lancer, Fords, Grand Prix) and alot of them are doggy (sluggish) when you step on the gas. Also, the parts for a Honda are really inexpensive compared to other makes and models.

Acura is a fabulous car I never had any problems with it. Just the normal upkeep on any vehicle. Your best bet when you go to buy a vehicle is look at foreign cars as bad as it sounds we are Americans and a lot of Americans do wish to buy American made.....but, I will say it our vehicles are not that great. Also, before you buy any car I suggest putting it on a computer to diagnose any issues with it. Depending on your area it could cost 50-100 dollar, but in the long run could keep you from buying a money pit. A lot of these used cars are fixed with things that are just a cheap temporary fix so some suckers will buy the vehicle as is. Because as you know once you've taken it off the lot its your problem. Be smart don't get in a hurry......And try to research any past on the vehicle before you buy it...Carfax I think would be a good site to use. And most dealerships will do it for you if asked. I would never buy a car previously wrecked and fixed they are bad news. Good luck and Happy hunting.

My hubby and I just bought a 2004 Pontiac Aztec. I just love it! It is fully loaded! The engine has a ton of zip/pick up compared to what I formerly drove..lol It is big/comfy and I haven't checked the gas milage, but it is suppose to get 25 mpg. It rides like a cloud too. Paid 16,000 and that was with a two year bumper to bumper warranty. It has 37,000 miles.

don't laugh. buy a hyundai. I had one and it was the best car I ever had. great mileage, no problems, started every morning and late night in winter, just a good, good car. I wish I still had it but I had to trade it in for a minivan because of all the kids!
