I know it sounds bad, but I let my daughter (14 months today) play with the bottle and look at it while I give her the medicine, and then she takes a sip of milk and finishes the meds. If he still uses a pacifier they make medicine passys that squirt the medicine while the kid is sucking on it. Otherwise give him something he is usually not allowed to play with (cell phone, tv remote) that will distract him long enough to get it down

With six kids, I've tried almost every medicine administering trick out there. With my last couple of babies, I just mix it with an appropriate liquid up until they get to an age where they are more cooperative. Tylenol, Motrin, cough & cold meds, etc. were mixed with juices, antibiotics I mixed with chocolate or strawberry milk, or yogurt.

When they get to be about 2.5 or 3, they are much more cooperative and can listen to reason a little better. Telling them how the medicine is going to help them is effective, and giving them some control over how they take it (do you want it on a spoon, or in the squirter?) can make it easier as well.

Good luck, and I hope your little one is feeling better soon!

I'm right there with ya, My 2 year old hates medicines.
I learned at the hospital the full nose plug trick ....

Lean them back almost flat (you'll need 2 people) plug the nose, squirt the medicine in, blow in their face and let go of there nose, its tricky at first but it gets easier.

Make sure on line or with your doctor that it is a medicine that can be mixed with food or juice because not all meds can

Last but not least good luck :)

When my daughter would not take medicine I also tried the nose thing and holding her down but they make it worse. I just used a syringe to put a litle bit in her mouth at a time and when she was done I would give her a reward. I do not have problems when I have to give her something now.

Use a medicine syringe. They work best. Place the filled to the level you need syringe in the side of his mouth. The cheek, and go back as far as comfortable. Then slowly push the plunger in to release the medicine and gently blow in the little ones face. They have to catch their breath and to do that they have to swallow the medicine. It works every time...I've had to do it with my 3 children. Holding the nose just makes em want to spit. keep gently blowing in his face til he swallows all the medicine. It seems cruel but it works.

a very nice question. Actually to children upto 2 years they cannot swallow medicines that are bitter. So better to go with Homeopathy medicines because they just globules that too sweet without any side effects.

I also used it, for my kid. it really worked ,

I gave him telling it as a sweet.

Why to hold nose etc. its a good idea %%%%%%

I use the plastic syringe that comes with baby Dimetapp...I keep the mouth shut and squeeze it inside the cheek, tipping the chin up until they swallow, and then squeeze a little more until it's gone.

I also give drink after to wash out the taste.

That way she won't really taste it, and I know just how much I got into her little body.

as a mother of 3, the trick is to put the medicine in his drink. if he can't see it he will take it. but read the label and if it says don't mix with milk use juice, or feed him some pudding or apple sauce ane put it in that.

You have to mix it with something like applesauce or yogurt. Then he won't notice. An important thing is to not tell him when you're doing that or that you're doing it at all otherwise he won't want to eat what you give him.

I remember when my daughter wouldn't take the liquid tylenol, I asked her if she wanted in juice. Instead she wanted it in water, looked disgusting. So maybe you should try putting it in a small cup of juice that way he drinks it all.
