You sure this isn't a cat bite? Personally , I'd take him to the vet . Sometimes a wound will heal on the outside but remains infected on the inside.
Fever is probably causing him to sleep.

Stop messing around and playing guessing games and get the kitty to the vet to be checked.
Hydrogen peroxide is a good idea but if he has an abscess from either a spider or a cat bite this needs to be drained with a plastic plug put into the wound for a week to cure it.
A vet visit is like $30, if there's nothing wrong. If something is wrong, it's going to be more, but unless you are a trained technician, take the kitty to the vet............ cats can and have died from abcesses or spider bites......... I wish you the best of luck.

A brown reluse bite can be deadly to human tissue and can continue to eat away at human flesh if all the poisoned skin is not removed.
Now imagine that same bite on a cat.
If your cat was bitten by a brown recluse and does not receive treatment, it will likely die because it's flesh will continue to die.
If you only wants whats best for your kitty, I would highly recommend you take your cat to the vet.

Anytime you suspect a spider bite take your cat or dog to a vet...we've lost six babies to what we know now to be spider bites...with ours they were fine one day and dying the next..everytime we buried a baby we'd find a spider that same day or the day after.. We spray more often now with a pet and child safe all natural spider spray.. My cat was bitten by a spider should I take him or her to a vet?? Wow, really?

specifically situations there's a scab which could be coated by way of fur so seem heavily for a hardened spot. this could sound gross yet while it rather is swelled up you will ought to pluck the scab off to launch the an infection interior it. you may the two pluck it off yet while it related too a lot you may melt it with heat water to launch the puss. Cat's can get better fairly nicely from issues like spider bites. it rather is in basic terms get's a sprint dodgey while the wound is contaminated. verify kitty is eating nicely and it particularly must be ok. :)

Ok, sweetie, I vote for the vet too!!! I lived in an apt once and the workers came to put in new ceilings/Sheetrock and my kitty had a "goose egg" on her little chin. I asked the workers the next day if they saw her swatting anything around and they said...duh,,,oh yeah, she was pretty busy with something....I kept an eye on her and the "goose egg" went down on it's own and the skin never broke. So all in all she weathered it pretty well. If the skin broke on your kitty's wound she may need help to "process" the poison from the spider. Especially a brown recluse,,,their terrible!!
I was hospitalized from a brown recluse bite,,,thank God it was a tiny baby spider not an adult.
God Bless you and our wonderful, mysterious cats.

Brown recluse spider bites are dangerous to anyone,be they human or animal, its worse for an animal because of their size.the amount of venom injected by this spider can be dangerous to a cat or a dog ,so,to be on the safe side and if you can find the spider that bit your cat bring it to the vet so he can tell just what kind of spider bit your kitty,it may not even be a brown recluse spider after all. so please tgo to the vets and set your mind at ease. rubberstampr

I would refer you to the well written paper on the effects of Brown Recluse spiders bites to pets at http://www.michvma.org/documents/MVC%20Proceedings/Fitzgerald1.pdf.
I have also heard of this poultice being used on pets and I've never used it myself, but the old lady down the road with 5 cats swears by it for spider bites:
1 drop lavender
1 drop helichrysum
1 drop melrose
Apply neat to bite then add to an oatmeal poultice 5 drops each to draw out the poison. After the poultice then apply purification.
If you are really worried, I would say ask the vet.

In humans the bite from that type of spider eats its way out from deep within the tissue. So maybe the swelling means it is from a less poisonous spider. Still the best way to be sure is someone who is a professional.

Since the cat is lethargic, something is wrong. Best take him to the vet.
