Heteropaternal superfecundation is very rare in humans, though more common in other animals. This is primarily due to the predominance of 1:1 heterosexual partner pairings among humans. A woman who has sexual relations with two or more men at short intervals within the same ovulatory period can be impregnated by both men.

Superfecundation is the fertilisation of two or more ova from the same cycle by sperm from separate acts of sexual intercourse. The term is also sometimes used to refer to the instances of two different males fathering fraternal twins, though this is more accurately known as heteropaternal superfecundation. This therefore leads to the possibility of twins also being half-siblings.
Superfecundation most commonly happens within hours or days of the first instance of fertilisation with ova released during the same cycle. Ovulation is usually suspended during pregnancy to prevent further ova becoming fertilised and to help increase the chances of a full term pregnancy. However, if an ovum is released after the female was already impregnated when previously ovulating, there is a chance of a second pregnancy -- albeit at a different stage of development. This is known as superfetation.

The term that i've got heard is "dizygotic". (See link decrease than for a sprint greater information). that is stressful to have self assurance that this recent day anybody is so closed minded. It bothers me to renowned that for some, what they do no longer comprehend or do no longer recognize approximately is quickly something out of the "Twilight Zone" or something. no person is conscious each thing. possibly as quickly as various the responders right here comprehend that, they gained't get so darned many thumbs down!

IT IS TOO POSSIBEL for those who say it isnt. some woman get pregnant and still ovulate and they can carry two fetuses with two diffrent gestational ages. a lady at work had this happen ( both were by her husband) but they are " twins " but one fetus was a few months older than the other and when they deliverd the one that was concieved later on was born premie. i cant remember the name of it but she told me there is a scietnific name. Thats why even though im pregnant, i dont feel like safe having sex like ' oh i cant get pregnant im arleayd pregnatn' cause it happend to the lady at work it can happen to me too.

Contary to the opinion of others who have answered, it IS possible to conceive 'twins' by two different fathers. It is fairly rare, but still possible. Saw it on Discovery Channel. The technical medical terms for it is superfecundation. Check out the following links for more info:

it is possible the woman dropped two eggs and each one was fertilized by a different man. I do not know if you could term the children as twins though. Twins are from two eggs fertilized by the same man or one fertilized egg split in two. Blood tests or DNA tests would tell for sure if the fathers of the children are the same or different.

It is totally possible. The term is heteropaternal superfecundation. Who the hell is teaching sexual education these days? Don't people watch TV??? - I would be willing to bet that this has been a topic on Maury Povich or Montel at one point or another.
