My daughter is 7, and she cooks on the stove and with the oven.

And for gods sake. "15-16?" Are you retarded? You're going to be living with your mom when you're 30...

That all depends apon you and if you want to learn to cook. Any age is good. My son started cooking when he was 8 years and now he is eleven and he knows his way around the kitchen. My daughter on the other hand is 9 and hasn't shown any interest yet in cooking. I guess I'm going to have to give her more of a nudge to get her into the kitchen. Myself on the other had I didn't really learn how to cook till I got married and I was 27 at that time. so you see there is no age you should be it just all depends on if you have the desire to try. Get some simple recipes and start there.

There is not really an age that you learn, it's more of a desire. Get a beginners cook book & find something you might like, prepare it & see how you like it. Some people don't like to cook, I always made my kids help in the kitchen. They are all good cooks now. My son is married with 3 kids & he does all the cooking all his wife can do is nuke it. Try to clean as you go or the mess will be over whellming. good luck I hope you enjoy it, then you won't ever starve!!

My mother was teaching her great grand daughter, my great niece @ the age of 9 with supervision. But hey, it doesn't matter how old you are if you can read and follow a recipe then you got it made. There are some things that take trial and error but that's just part of it. I'm a 40 yr. old guy and have known how to cook since I was 7. You can't always count on someone else doing it for you and eating out all the time is unhealthy. You really should learn how you'll need it later on in life! G.

There is no shame in not knowing how to cook. It just depends on your upbringing. If passing down recipes was a big thing in your family then you may have learned to cook at a young age. If that wasnt such a big thing in your upbringing then i think it would be normal.

If you are interested in cooking get a cookbook. Betty Crocker is good to start with. Pick out a recipe for brownies, or cookies and follow it exactly. Practice that several times and then move on to other recipes that interest you. Keep in mind that the first time may not always turn out perfect but as long as you keep trying it will get easier!

Have fun! Enjoy it and don't get discouraged.

I don't know, I have 3 nieces.....the oldest is 11, she cannot cook for anything..the next is 9 and loves to cook...she made her Uncle meatloaf the other day....(and he said it was better than mine....lol) and the 3rd is 6...and she has no interest in cooking...to much of a tomboy to cook. I guess its just the matter of what they are into, and what they like to do. I personally was like the 9 yr old, and was cooking @ 9. The girls mother.....was like the oldest and didn't start cooking until she was married. Different people, different ways.

That's a hard question to answer because it will be different for everyone. My mom hated to cook so I started to learn at a pretty young age. I started letting my daughter help in the kitchen when she was very young. She'd stand on a stepladder and help me measure and stir things. When she was about nine or ten, I let her help cut things and stir pots on the stove. She's 14 now and can cook simple things on her own. She actually makes better spaghetti sauce than I do. She enjoys learning to cook and I like it because I know she will be able to take care of herself once she moves out on her own. It's never too late to learn though. Just watch cooking shows and read cookbooks and magazines and just practice, practice, practice. It doesn't take too long to get the hang of it.

If you really want to learn how to cook start now, but don't worry about being normal some people can cook at your age and some people can't.

Your parent should have taught you basic cooking by the time you a 12-14. If you enjoy cooking and are interested, then it's up to you to learn more. But you may well get married and have children one day and you need to know how to prepare a nutritious meal. If you are lucky your mate will enjoy cooking and do some of the work. If you don't intend to marry & have a family, you can probably get along on canned, microwaved, frozen or takeout stuff. But it is kind of nice be be able to fix a few dishes that you like to eat. If your parent doesn't like to cook, you may need to do some research on your own and maybe offer to fix a few meals. I have one granddaughter that fixes basic, nutritious meals for her family because they have to eat. Her sister cooks great gourmet meals every day and tests new recipes all the time. Both girls work (one nurse, one legal secretary) Same mom, just different likes. You need to get your feet wet by doing a breakfast or lunch for the family. Do you have a grandmother, aunt or other family/friend who enjoys cooking? Go talk to them. You need to know the basics.
Can you sew? Do you know how to wash clothes? Can you set a formal dinner table? See, you need to know this stuff. It's part of being an adult.

You'll never know how to cook until you've taken the steps to try.

There's no set year for this. Some people learn by doing it with family at a very early age, some don't.
It all depends on what you are trying to bake and what kinds of information you get to do it.
There are plenty of places to get recipes online with decent directions. All you need is a bit of patience and the right ingredients.
Good luck.
