I got my tongue pierced about 1 month and a half ago. Ever since the second or thirdish week I noticed the ball of my tongue ring at the top started to sink into the pierced hole. Plus I had some scar tissue around it at the beginning.

Now I have this noticable cleft infront of my piercing when its at rest but if I make my tongue cuff up in a cuplike fashion theres clearly an indentation where the tissue is being split wider by the ball. Theres enough room in the hole so that the ball sinks in by half way atleast. Then when I left up the bar it splits and suns down the crack (cleft) thats in front of the piercing.

When I sleep my tongue rests on the roof of my mouth so, does this have any impact on it? What should i do about it to make it normal? Get a smaller bar? I was told to get a half ball thats flattened on the bottom and this will allow it to close up.

I have a 7/8 in my tongue since the beginning.

Please help?

ooh, sounds nasty. yeah, you should take it out. you can't have a piercing without your tongue, right? the piercing is not worth your tongue. to the person below me: ok...what if it doesnt heal and just keeps sinking? different people have different reactions, what happened for you might not happen for others.

It's pretty normal to have a bit of an indent on your tongue from the jewelry. It's just the way it sits in your mouth. You may need to get a different size barbell, as 7/8 is rather large jewelry to wear after the swelling has gone down. The cleft you described should go away with a bit of time, but the piercing needs to settle first. Pay a visit to your piercer just to make sure everything is ok (while your description is good, its still hard to tell without seeing it) and ask about getting your jewelry switched.

hmm well... i dont have my tongue pierced buti have researched about piercings.. i think your jewelry may be too small if its digging into your tongue liek that.. was the place you went to reputable?? it shouldnt be doing that as usually reputable piercers will fit you with jewelry larger in length to accomidate for weliling while the piercing is healing.. and you do gt the normal sized jewelry (downsizing) about 2 weeks after you get your piercing.. (you go tot hem and pay a small fee to have it downsized for a more appropriate length) but you should try a different piercer.. sicne you are having this problem. they will be able to switch the jewelry for you with out any problems and it shoudl be more comfortable... but i have read about tongue rings that it is VERY improtatant to wear the proper sized jewelry as this decreases the risk for chipping your teeth.

so go to another REPUTABLE piercer and haev them take a look at it! and get more comfortable jewelry for you!

good luck =]

no no no...dont take it out. it will fix itself with time. i had the same problem when i first had mine done and it did scare me a little too. but dont take it out. that cleft-like indention is partially because of the swelling that always occurs with getting the piercing. i guarantee u that it will go away in a few weeks. ive had mine for almost 3 and a half years now. and besides....u dont want ur money, pain, and cute piercing to go to waste now do u?? :)

good luck to u!!!!

take it out and let the piercing fill in...i dont think u want surgery if the ball sinks too low...Some ppl's bodies are irritated by these things so they react...possibly like urs...
