Hello there!

You're going to have to consult your veterinarian on this one.

Heres why:

There are three different kinds of mange (sarcoptic, demondectic, cheyletiella) which can be mistaking for other conditions.

Your vet will have to differentiate what kind of mange the dog has (and decide if it is mange and not another skin condition)through a skin scraping analysis, since the mites themselves are microscopic.

The medications involved are also prescribed medications. If you can't afford the possible bill, try to work out a payment plan with your vet (many vets will do this for people).

Please don't put car oil or any drugs on/in your dog that you don't know about.

This can result in an even worse case scenario:
- Getting your dog's stomach pumped
- Dog ending up having a fatal reaction to strange drugs/dosages

~ Hope this helps!
:)

Was your dog diagnosed with mange? Did he have a skin scraping done? How old is your dog? Demodex mange is an immune problem. So if your dog is a pup, it is probably just because his immune system needs to mature a bit more in order to keep the mite at a reasonable number. Adult onset demodex is much more serious, because it means there is an underlying issue. If it is demodex mange and only localized your dog can very well be treated at home. Try neem oil or tea tree oil on his patches to stop the itch. If the mange progresses to generalized then it is something that will have to be treated by your vet.

Scarcopic mange is different, not only is it contagious but it also cannot be treated at home. Good luck and I hope I was helpful.

Essentially you can't treat mange at home, it's a prescription 'dip' you have to have your dog have and it is EXPENSIVE. My beagle had mange (we got him from a really bad breader!) and it cost us more than $500 to get rid of it over a 6 week period.

Well worth it though. Hopefully your vet will work with you on a payment plan if you can't afford it, I don't know. We have the best vet, but we also have enough cash for things like that happening!

Good luck!

There are two types of mange that are caused by two different mites. One can be given to people, and one can't. You really need to go to the vet so they can determine which kind of mange your pet has. There are different treatments for the different types. Some of the medications are the same, but the dosages are different. Your vet will be able to perscribe the best treatment for your pet.

Mange- very hard to treat at home. My dog has it too so i know how dreadful your dog looks! lol. okay, rumor has it you can use already used car oil- but i WOULD NOT DO THIS! Too many risks involved. The best way is to take it to the vet. They will give you r dog dips. You can't do this by yourself because mange, is not a skin disease; it is simply an immune system deffect, meaning that it's immune sytem is low. You can't posiblly do this by yourself because the dip is way strong, could possibly harm your skin, because your body 's immune system can feet it off. It might cost you 30$ but-its worth it!

You really need to go to the vet (well your animal does)....they will give you medication and special shampoo to use. I had a dog that had mange and we had to give her a bath once a week with the special shampoo...we also shaved her hair off, it was hot where we lived anyways but the poor dog looked funny.

I've heard of a product called Dinovite that's supposed to be good for mange.

You either treat it w a dip (need prescription) or with higher dose of heartworm medication (need prescription and a vet to calculate the correct dose).

At home, you could use an oatmeal shampoo to help the itching, but this will not cure it. You need a vet.
