that goes around to our troops' funerals protesting with those hateful signs bashing them for their service to our country??? I have had it with them!!! It is one thing to have your own opinion of the War, but to turn their funerals into circuses? It makes me sick to my stomach!

To add details..yes, it was that Baptist church group that travels around the US. My husband is serving as we speak, and I can hardly bare the thought of losing him..much less having to deal with that nonsense at his funeral. I am glad I am not the only one who is utterly disgusted!

They're disgusting. They're actually making laws now because of those people forbidding protests within a certain distance of military funerals. I also read that the Hell's Angels, (many of whom are military veterans themselves) have been going to the funerals to form a "barricade" of sorts in case those whack jobs show up. Kind of ironic that "Hell's Angels" need to protect grieving families from evil psychotic people claiming to be Christians. (I'm saying "claiming to be" because those people are not representatives of anything but their own hate.)
They even bring their kids along with them, and the kids, too, hold up signs. The signs aren't bashing the soldiers for serving. The signs say things like "God Hates F*gs" and "God Hates You" and "Thank God For Dead Soldiers." They are doing this because they say that we're at war with Iraq because God is punishing us for tolerating homosexuality. One town said that if they showed up with their kids, and the kids were holding up signs, they were going to send DCF over to take the kids away.

I have never heard of them. I do not agree with the disrespect that you say that they are doing! It is not the right thing to do. I am a Christian and as a whole Christians are the ones blamed for the war. I don't think we should be sending our youth to set their lives on the line for these people who don't want us there in the first place. Our own government isn't even taking care of their service people with the respect due to them! But I would honor anyone who went and served if they died and if they came back safe and sound( Praise the Lord)I'll pray that your husband come home to you unharmed sweety.
Ps. I pray daily for the end to this war and for the safe return home of our troups.

They are using freedom of speech and assembly loopholes. One Native American community was able to keep them out as the reservations are sovereign nations and have their own laws.
They should be at least able to come up with some law preventing harassing at funerals- they must stay a half mile away or something.

Yes, I'm disgusted with anybody who'd use a funeral to try to score political points, but I didn't think they were a religious group; I thought they were a bunch of political crazies.

yes i do hate that. they give Baptists a bad name. I'm not Baptist myself (I'm Catholic) but I know that all Baptists are not like that. It's mainly one specific church and they are all part of the same family for the main part, so they just took Christianity and screwed around with it to make it look like what they're doing is right. and that sucks really bad. it's sickening. but don't let it discourage you, not all Baptists, and certainly not all Christians, are like that.

I very much dislike them, but one good thing has come about from their behavior.
When "extremist Muslims" strap bombs to their kids and blow them up, very few Muslim leaders speak out against them.
When "extremist Christians" blow up abortion clinics or protest funerals with vile sayings, Christian leaders everywhere speak out against them.
I think this demonstrates that Islam has NOT been hijacked by extremists, and that Christianity IS a religion of peace.

Yes, but there is FREEDOM of expression in the US
We have a right to burn flags, marry gays, have Nazis march and even those people who go to funerals.
Would you have the US ban conversion. Going door to door. Would you have the US ban Jehovah's witnesses, Born Again Christians.
Would you have the US ban ANTI WAR PROTESTERS
How about those who protest ABORTIONS and BLOCK abortion clinics.
Should they be arrested
Do we ban MAY DAY parades, SOCIALIST parties, GAY rights parades, St. Patrick Day parades.
DO we ABOLISH Christmas
It's all about THOSE who WANT and THOSE who DON'T WANT
For THOSE who DOn'T WANT protests at funerals there are THOSE who DON'T WANT Christmas celebrations.
You can't pick and choose your ills
ALL are ILLS or NONE are ILLS

yes I am. It's Fred Phelps and the Westboro Baptist church. They really alienate everyone. Unfortuneately they make a lot of money by suing everyone who tries to stop them.

Westboro Baptist I assume. They are saying that the soldiers were killed by God because gays are allowed to live in the USA.
Yoiu must understand that Westboro Baptist is just one inbred family. They are all related by blood or marriage.
It is the Phelps family.
