If it comes from God we should welcome it.
First, much evil in the world, especially physical evil, results from the limited kind of universe we live. Many suffer because of social sins and unjust systems.
Second, moral evil and much of human suffering come from man's abuse of his freedom to sin. Evil and suffering draws us to God.
Third, because of evil and suffering the virtues of courage, generosity, forgiveness, hope and sacrifice shine forth.
Finally, Christ's Paschal Mystery shows how God draws out of the depths of evil the victory of the risen Christ and his transforming love.
"We know that God makes all things work together for the good of those who love Him" (Romans 8,28).
Peace!

Suffering does not make you fall into darkness. Bad things happen. You choose how you react to bad things. Your choice.
I have done both. I have been very angry at God for somethings that have happened, the death of my son for one.
I have thanked God for helping me learn and become a better person.
No pain, no gain.
Even the death of my son has had some good come of it. A few months after a friends daughter died of cancer I was talking to her and she told me she was waiting to get over it. I explained that losing a child was like losing an arm. You never get over it, but, you do learn to cope.
Even the most devastating fire can warm us when we are cold.

At first, I prayed. Then I blamed him. Then I looked at the world around me, started reading a book called the Demon Haunted World by Carl Sagan, and decided that a personal god probably isn't real.
There is a good thing about my conclusion. I am ultimately responsible for finding answers for my own problems when I can. Environment influences everything, of course. Life is never fair. But at least I know that a deity doesn't have a hand in my suffering, and that makes it easier to fix things, instead of fear and despair an invisible hand.

I never blame God, because I know that usually my suffering is the consequence of my own sin or bad choices. Also, sometimes we suffer trials and tribulations for the strengthening of our faith. Going through these things builds character if we realize that all things work together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose.

I have blamed Him in my heart, yes. And asked for forgiveness afterward. And while I am not saintly enough to be thankful for suffering as it occurs, I have sometimes thanked Him for it afterward, when I could look back and see where I had learned an important lesson or in some way gained spiritually from it.

Any darkness or dispair that I may experience, is of my own doing out of my own free-will. I can blame no one, except myself.
If I find myself experiencing this darkness or dispair, it is only because I have placed more value and attachment to something physical, than walking in the Light and Love of God.

I wondered what I did in my past lives to throw my karma into such imbalance that I would have to continue serving the penance of my past deeds.

I neither thank nor blame anyone when I have difficulties. I only look within myself for the answers and the strength to do what I need to do to make my life better. You can't sit around looking for a place to put blame, or asking why. You need to think clearly and take action in order to take control of your destiny. Waiting for a superior being to intervene will paralyze you.

Niether. I don't believe in God. I am more thankful for this life I have and cherish it more than anyone I know though, so whenever bad things happen to me, I can't help but be happy that I am not suffering as so many do.

I thank God for both good and bad, and I ask his forgiveness when I blame, and curse him, It's a weakness I have when things go wrong.
