The late 90's is when Hyundai started to make decent cars. They just weren't as consistent as with the cars they make today. I had an 97 Elantra which was a good car. Ran to 80,000 miles with no major problems. Traded it for a 01. I agree with beavanjb might be worth it but don't expect trouble free ownership with a car thats 10 yr old. That goes for all brands of cars.

Hyundai is known as bad product since many years. In the past 5 years, their quality has been improved quite a bit but still their resale value on any of their model is still very low in the market. People buy their used car simply because it is cheap, so is better go for a brand new hyundai or look for a japanese model.

Hyundai builds an outsanding product since revamping their entire line in 2000. Prior to a 2000 model it would not be my first choice.

No, because they have poor reliability and crash test ratings.
