I wish people would stop confusing Islam with some of the negative behaviors that are carry overs from the ancient cultures of the area. I've quite a few co workers from the middle east and north Africa and they all tell me that Islam is truly a tolerant and accepting religion. The prophet Mohamed taught that women should hold an equal place and that girl children are to be cherished and loved. The dietary laws are simply good guidelines to healthy lifestyles. Islam is not a hateful religion and we shouldn't mix up some peoples extreme cultural views with their religious beliefs. One could very well cite intolerance in some christians,or jews and paint each and every one of us with a similar brush.

Islam is a great religion; It's a religion of peace. There are fanatics and terrorists in every religion and Islam is no exception but you have to blame people not religion. Islamic terrorists say they fight under the words of God and for God, same as American government says they fight in Iraq for democracy and justice, truth is both are liar, both fight for other reasons. Islam orders no Muslim to kill but to defend themselves. Women in Islam are most respected and valued more than men, read from an honest sources not anti-Islam crap or haters to know the truth. Turn off your CNN and FOX news and start searching and learning about the true Islam then judge.

The answer depends on if i believe what the popular media likes to suggest about the Islamic religion or if i base my opinion on what experience i have with the people that follow Islam.
The religion itself is good and can have a positive effect on the lives of many people but as with ALL religions some of the followers interpret the message in a radical and dangerous way.

Religion is OK when you use it to guide your own life, it becomes dangerous when you use it to force others to take the same path.

Islam is a very interesting religion. the part i like about Islam is the spiritual equality that all members of Islam seem to share what i dis like is the odd reaction which Islam seems to have toward those out side of Islam. three thousand people die and no cries of out rage from ANY ONE in the Islamic community. let a cartoon of Muhammad be printed in a danish news paper and every one who's of a Western nation needs to be punished and burned in effigy. their reaction seems totally childish and selfish. the islamic community has printed cartoon's of the holacaust and christ and the pope but i guess THOSE insults must be okay cause they don't insult islam. can dish it out but can,t take it ,huh fellows?

I dont like the fact people put Islam down because of the terrorists. There is alot of religions that "believers" do wrong things. Example, why so many Catholic priests molest kids? Islam is a religion just as every other religion there is. They may have things that you dont like, but each religion deserves respect. True Islam believers do not like these terrorists and what they are doing, but if you learn about their religion there is jihad, which means if someone attacks you you attack back. But where ever you look in this world, and whatever religion you look into there will always be dark people. Dont blame the religions blame the people who dont fully understand it.

I think of Islam as the religion of getting closer to Allah (God). I honestly wish people could not judge us Muslims as terrorists. I wish people could understand and get it through their heads that violence is not permitted in Islam, unless of course, you are trying to defend the faith. Even though there are rules, it doesn't mean it's difficult to be Muslim. The rules are rules that will guide us to a straight path, a non-evil path. Islam is a religion that is said to open the right doors in life. So the next time you hear something about a terrorist, please don't let the first thing that comes to your mind be "It's always the Muslims." Because it's not. There are bad people everywhere, and that's how life is gonna be. You can't change that, I can't change that, so let's live with it and let God deal with these people.

I know very little about Islam. The only things that I know is what has been written and talked about in the media. One time you hear that it is a religion of peace and good will. The next time you hear that all Muslims, by Gods will, must kill all infidels, which is everyone who is not a Muslim. The Muslims kill in the name of God, that really scares me.

But, the Muslims are not the only religion that killed in the name of their religion. Christians have had many horrible times in the history of the religion where they tortured, killed and maimed in God's name. So is Islam any worse than Christians of long ago? No. But what is scary about today, is that the weapons of today are so much more sophisticated and much more deadly.

The way women are viewed and treated disgusts me. Of course Islamic women most likely are happy with their religion, which is fine, but I would never switch to it.

It's stupid how everyone stereotypes Muslims after all the terrorist attacks though. What about the IRA, does that mean Christians are terrorists too? No I didn't think so.

Based on what the media, religious fanatics and politicians tell us or based on actually educating ourselves first about the religion and ~then~ answering the question? (wink)

Nowadays somebody can take tiny bits of information or isolated incidents and spread it all over the internet, causing a frenzy of falsehoods ... I've heard so many actual untruths (pros and cons) about it that I don't listen to half the crap anymore ...

Most Islamics I know are very nice, kind and loving people. There are and will always be religious fanatics who take a religion and distort it and manipulate it's text to serve their own power and financial purposes. There are plenty of religious nuts (from all creeds around the world) who would kill you without blinking if it served their agenda.

They are philanthropic like Jews, Christians, Buddhists or Hindu's. Radical Islam is present in less than 1% of Muslims followers as it is the second most practiced religion in the world. Therefore a common perception of an ordinary Muslims view terrorists the same way as Christians view the klu klux klan. (Intentionally lowercase) branch davidians, or abortion clinic bombers. Therefore I believe Islam is a widely misunderstood religion. They are fair peaceful and strongly spiritual and philanthropic.
