Man is clearly afraid of the unknown. I know there will be a lot of controversy when it comes to this topic, but really, is religion something that man made before our time in order to create a history because they didn't know how they came to be or why they were who they were? Was it just because they were afraid and they figured "hey, if we make up some answer, it CAN be the answer. whether it's right doesn't matter. what's in the past is in the past."
I don't know who I'm referring to when I say "they."
I must admit - death IS a fear of mine, but the idea of heaven doesn't compensate for that fear.
What is religion to you? A relationship with God? A set of rules you can live by for the rest of your life instead of creating your own guidelines? Answers?

Religion is basically a theory. Science is also a theory.
I haven't read many Mark Twain books, but if you read this, let me know which book you're talking about.
Religion isn't something I fear. I go to church in hopes that maybe something will suddenly strike me and I'll be as easy and free as Christians seem to be.
As I said earlier to a question that stated "Atheists - what if God really did exist?" (or something alone those lines)... Well then, Atheists would all go to hell and feel God's wrath.

If God is love and the opposite of love is hate, then who is the opposite of hate? Satan? I could name quite a few similarities between Satan and God no matter how much contrast is supposed to be between them. What is love supposed to be? (Not who.) Although there is no concrete definition, everyone agrees that love is necessary.

Long, long ago Thor made thunder. When we figured out what actually causes thunder, Thor became unemployed.
The more we know, the less gods we need. "God did it" means exactly the same as "I don't know".

Since the beginning of time, man has created "higher beings" to compensate for the lack of knowledge of the things around them. Such as mythology's many gods that represented earthly actions around them that they could not explain. Through time, science has been disproving religious beliefs left and right and if you read the book Angels and Demons by Dan Brown, you will gain a little more insight on this topic. Mankind has also created religion so they have something to look forward to. Man needs a purpose in life so religion gives them that purpose, but I truly believe that those that are independent and have inner strength create their own purpose in life. There's a very smart quote I once heard somewhere (sorry I don't have the source) "God didn't create man. Man created God." I hope this helps answer your question. I have respect for all religions, me being an atheist, and I know there is no true answer when it comes to religion, but science is hard evidence and that's what it comes right down to.

Nope I am not afraid of the unknown and I believe in God with all my heart and I know God created this earth with his own loving hands just for us because he loves us. I don't think God was just a made up story I think it is fact along with everything else in the Bible. I am not afraid of the unknown because I know that God is sort of the unknown andI have to tell others about his love for us and everyone like it or not. So my relationship with God is good and I know he will never leave anyone and GOd gave everyone a set of rules called the ten commandments. I know I can't keep them but it doesn't mean I should try to live me life to the fullest and shareing my love for Christ with everyone.

A wise man said "Religion is the worst thing to happen to mankind" I agree.
Religions is a smokescreen for the truth that there is only one God who created us all. We are his children. He is our Father in heaven. He loves us and would like to see us love him. Just like any parent want to give his/her child the best. Loving your Mom or Dad or husband or wife is not a matter of religion..it is a matter of love. Love is a relationship. A relationship must begin and be given a chance to be allowed to develop and grow. If we dont give God a chance, how can we begin? If we dont begin somewhere, how can it develop and grow? If it doesnt develop and grow, how can we understand true love? Well God is love. Love to many is unknown because many dont know where to look for love. Fortunately, the author of love and wrote a book of love and in it we can find true love because in him is love. Not religion..not the unknown..but God is love. The opposite of love is hate. We all know hate exists, that is not a secret nor unknown therefore love exists.....

Religion is not too far from politics. It is what a collective uses as a guidline to enforce its agenda. Its on us to decide if that agenda is righteous or not. I am not very religious, but im highly spiritual. Even if you are part of a religion, its all about what you believe. Not all christians elieve all christian practices. Thats why theres like 40 different types of christian. its all about your walk and what convicts you.

To me, religion is my final destination of my life journey here on Earth, btw it's also the engine, the steering wheel, the map, and the fun !!! It's the no 1 priority in my life. Everything else, job, money, fame, power, etc are temporary possessions. Yeah, they are strangers on the back seat.

Yes, but it is also a form of help in one's life. It provides them with guidelines to live by, a community to live with and people to live with as well as a sense of security, and a proposed solution to the unknown.

For me, Religion is to be believed metaphysically.
If you believe it in actuallity for example; raising the dead, walking on water, etc., then it is where the trouble and trickery starts
