it depends on your face shape really and the volume of your hair. I like my hair short and I'm not in my 40's yet...I really like short hair, it's so easy to take care of. Long hair looks bad if it is limp and lifeless and stringy. Layers add volume to it so if you keep it long add layers but I love it short.

It all depends on your hair type and personality. The rule of thumb is that shorter hair tends to make a woman look younger, but if you are over 40 you can still have longer hair and look youthful. Just make sure you are taking care of it and maybe have some layers cut into it so it lays nicer.

I dont think long hair is unatractive for women over forty. Not in todays society it use to be that every single women use to cut their hair short but now styles have changed women dye their hair and it looks nice. I think short hair makes a women look older at times. Look at all the famous women over the age of 40 they all have long hair and look fabulous

Did you see Demi Moore in Charlie's Angels 2? She looked great over 40 with long hair. It all depends on the individual and what they want. As you age it becomes harder to maintain you hair in a healthy fashion. Sometimes it does not look good long because it is not healthy, but if it is healthy there is nothing wrong with it.

I don't think that women should worry about that! I guess it's true that it might look a little more atractive for a middle-aged woman to have their hair short so that it will complement their face instead of just having it long with no shape. But I wish that people would just forget about what other people think and do whatever they like with their hair. : )

I don't think that theres a specific age group that has its on style. Every women has there own hair ideas, and it shouldn't be up to anyone else to decide. So if you're over 40 and you want hair hella long then have it long it dosen't matter! Either way it'll look great on anyone.

Conventional wisdom says that women over 40 should keep shorter hair. However, in modern society you can do what you want. Choose whatever is most flattering personally.

I'm 50 years old and still prefer to see long hair on almost all women. Its a matter of taste, a person should wear her hair and select her clothes on what she feels comfortable with, not what anybody else thinks. It isn't really anybody else's business.

I have never thought any woman of any age should have long or short hair. It is all up to the individual. Maybe as you get older you learn that it is better to have a lower maintenance hair style.

i think women should wear it how they want to and how they feel comfortable. obviously shorter or longer looks better on some people, but to each her/his own! salt and pepper grey/black long hair is beautiful on older women. I just don't really like when hair is extremely long and thin and not taken care of-ew
