Seriously I'm not kidding, I read on a pgieon website that one way to tell a pet pigeon's gender is to look at their anus, if it looks like a happy face then it's a male, if it's a sad face then it's a female.

But is there another way to tell what gender a newborn pigeon is other than using this method?

Most birds can be pelvic sexed but you have to know what you are feeling for. The pelvic bones on a male are closer together than on a female (but I have never tried to pelvic sex a new born).
The procedure:
Catch the bird and confine the wings, hold the bird in one hand and feel for the vent with the index finger, carefully feel for the pelvic bones and how far apart they are (you may need to check several birds before you figure out which are males). Have fun and be sure to wash your hands when you are finished.

many pigeons are monomorphic (look alike) so sexing visually may be next to impossible. Call 1-800-625-0874. This is a DNA center that will send you a free kit. You submit the required sample and in 5 business days they will tell you the sex of your bird via e-mail and even mail you a certificate. These people are courteous, professional and really accurate. Have a great year.

Well..The males are bigger and more colorfull depending on the species of bird that you want to know the gender of. For example, a male cardinal has a colorfull body of feathers and a female is smaller and more dull.

Um, the easiest way to determine gender is to take it to the vet. Sorry if you already heard that one, but it is easy. good luck!
