Redeployment means to return home from combat. It physically means that your unit packs up, everything goes through customs and you get the hell out of there. Currently, the Navy runs customs, it sucks but you know once its all over you get to go home finally. Hope this answered your question

Redeployment is basically moving the troops around to a (hopefully) better position. In politics, a "redeployment" is a polite way of saying retreat. A true redeployment will shift the positions of the troops in Iraq to a more advantageous configuration. The redeployment you keep hearing about by various Democrats is basically a draw down of troop levels which amounts to a retreat. Ending a military operation before its objectives are accomplished is not a success or a victory. It will be billed as one, but reality differs from politics.

Avatars refer to a concept that is not any different at all from your "real" name as also only concept. This is a spiritual question because, in fact, there is nothing such as a You that exists. The You/Me/I which folks think they are is a linguistic convention for something that exists only in a dualistic consciousness. Importantly and ultimately, there is not a You and Your Life. There is not God except as your dualistic consciousness thinks one up. Knowing this or even just acting as if this were true changes behavior in a positive way. Thinking there is a God usually (not always) results in the worst kind of behavior because of the divisive delusion and ultimate arrogance it is based on. The practice of remembering and reminding one's "self" this is usually called religion in the broadest sense. Kshetra means a field of action and a holy place - sometimes site of a war - which affects consciousness in the way that physics describes reality. The World Trade Center Site in New York is one such Kshetra.

All these people saying it means retreat, cut and run. have you ever served in the military?????? I have and the answer to the question is simple. a unit will not redeploy until it has been relieved by an incoming unit (so where is the retreating there???) I have been to Iraq 2 times and after 12 or 13 months every soldier, marine, sailor or airman is ready to reunite with loved ones. My only problem with most of you is your level of education on this topic yet you still try to answer the question. If you don't know don't pretend or be a smart *** about it

RE:
What does "Redeployment" mean?
I would like to know exactly what a "redeployment" of troops in iraq means literally. What would physically happen? A web link would be appreciated if you can find one.
Please no partisan hackery or whatever.

Since there are so many wrong answers and few correct ones, I thought I'd add my voice to those who answered correctly.....
Listen to the soldiers above who answered.... it means to come home from a deployment.
It is not a phrase the democrats "cooked up". It's normal military lingo nor does it mean to return to combat.

Once again...love that people put up Guesses as "answers". Take it from one who redeployed recently, redeployment is simply returning to the location from whence one deployed...so say you theoretically deployed to say...Iraq... from Fort Polk, and you returned to Fort Polk from Iraq after...lets say a year...you, my friend, have just "redeployed". Rinse and repeat.

Re-deployment is the process of returning from a deployment. It means your unit gets relieved by an incoming unit, you pack your **** up, go through customs, get on a plane, and go home.
it does not mean "deploying again"
