I looked at one of my friend's questions regarding Buddha, and saw many answerers that implied that Buddhists worship Buddha, and that our religion was wrong because of this. This is, of course, a mistake. Buddha was a man, and a great teacher, and the statues of him that we display are ways of showing our respect and thanks, we acknowledge no higher power. Yet these people seemed so sure of themselves. Why would someone try to disprove a religion when they obviously know nothing about it? Even a rudimentary understanding of Buddhism would have dispelled such a rumor...

Those people are stupid. Buddha never wanted to be hailed as a Deity, he's more of a teacher who achieved the understanding of everything

For Dangerous Danny you do not know what you are talking about and I respectfully urge you to do more research into the Tipitaka rather than openly telling others as such as it is dangerous even to yourself to come to such conclusions. You have to remember that in the Mahaparinibanna Sutta, the Buddha had advised his disciples to "Teach the Dhamma, declare it, establish it, expound it, analyse it, make it clear, and be able by means of the Dhamma to refute false teachings that have arisen."

The questioner has his reasons to this and in fact, a very valid Buddhist reason to do so too. He is acting upon falsehood and this is one way of helping one another in a community (be they Buddhists or not).

As for the questioner, I do not see any other choice but to swallow this bitter pill as others don't and some will never understand the essense of the dhamma. I face this very situation of yours and still go through it today.

Their understatements towards Buddhism only help and encourage non-believers to find out more about the truth. You may want to consider this. Then you might also want to write up on some things and do a lot of postings on the internet (fastest way to get messages across). This will be of good effort on your side rather than trying to correct an individual understanding.

Remember, nobody likes to be told what is right or wrong, but it does help if someday they learn from what is right or wrong. We can't please everybody and even the Buddha himself was not free from blame. What else can I say?

Let's keep up the good effort and practice with a lot of patience and don't forget the inner development that all of us have to perform. This is of more importance than to argue with some ignorant fools (as the Buddha would have put it).

Something else that you should remember is that Buddhists do not need to defend their beliefs to other people. If someone tries to antagonize or confuse us, then dialogue is impossible. There is no need to feel defensive in front of such people, we do not have to prove anything to them. Even if we were to give them logical answers they would not listen because they are involved with their own preconceptions. Buddhists are trying to reach enlightenment not promote their religion.

Eternity stretches so some distance back into the previous that we could have on no account reached the present, so there had to be a commencing up. previously the commencing up, what techniques conceived of that fifty/50 possibility?

Human nature. Few people need be bothered with facts and information to know everything about a subject, whether it be religion, politics, psychology, etc.

You are right. Buddha totally denies God. Mans word comes to nothing, but God keeps His promises. God will respect your choice, so will I. : )
