If the check engine light comes on for my 2003 VW Beetle, and I fix the problem myself, will the light go off or do I still need a mechanic to reset the computer?

i own a shop, and first you have to know what caused the problem, and you can find this out at auto zone they can scan it for you for free, and tell you,and yes you,ll have to have them clear the light off after its been repaired ,or it will continue to come on,really it all depends on what all is wrong with it ,whether or not you can repair it your self, good luck with it i hope this helps.

YES, unless you have an obd2 scanner, after the problem is fixed, you must have the check engine light reset. Most cars all that is required is to unplug the battery cable for awhile, but this is not the case with volkswagen.
