No, turkeys are a species living only in North America.
The turkish name of their country is "Türkiye" and therefore it's obvious that it doesn't have anything to do with the animals. I assume, the english tried to adopt this country's name to their language - it's sounding similar.

Because Turkey existet long before Columbus arrived in the Americas you should change your question: why was the animal named after (or similar to) the ENGLISH spelling of the turkish country.

Well, of course turkeys(the animals) live in any country they want, they have freedom to live wherever they want, just like you. Turkey is a country bordered with Greece, Bulgaria and Georgia,Armenia,Iran,Iraq and Syria. Turkiye we call it Turkiye coz, is the land of Turks and as all people on earth know that Turks are very strong, honest and brave ppl. And turkey the birds were taken to Europe by Turks and maybe why ppl started to call those birds "turkey"
Plus, there is a detail point which is capital T and low case t, turkey=bird, Turkey= country.
I think you should study a lil. bit grammar before you ask this question. So that, your 5 points wouldnt have gone waste. Dunno if it makes any sense to you, plus think about this becoz you didnt study grammar, it caused u to insult all Turks including me and made u sad again. Got it?
Study your lessons, specially English Grammar. That will make u feel safe than sorry...

Read some history and study LOGIC before making such a miserable joke just to prove how a nitwit you can really be

duuuh! you are a mistake. Your father should have used a condom on that day

The country is called turkey only in English. It means the land of strong in Turkish. So, ask this silly question to your people...why do they give the name of a country to a bird or vice versa.

Also, how old are you to ask this question?

What a silly question? Is this a joke or are you trying to be funny?
Actually the Turkish name of this bird is "Hindi", which means Indian. Are we to believe now that India is named after this bird? And the joke doesnt apply to other languages.

are you asking this question as a joke or are you serios. because if you are serios it means you really have some problems with the thing in your skull. if it is a joke you cannot have any right for insulting my country. shame on you.
