Ultimately, you should follow your dream. I would recommend not allowing yourself to get stuck in the 6/hour job but go for what you love. In the end, you will end up earning more provided you have a sound idea and business plan. I would just say go into it with a well thought-out plan and follow your dream. Getting stuck in something you don't like will just end up burning you out and delaying your dreams. Good luck! You can get loans for small businesses, and look into special program which may offer support. Where there is a will, there is a way!

What kind of a job would you do at home? There are books at the library that can help you try a home career. I think it's important to stay home with a child as long as you can, but you need to be in a better neighborhood when he is ready to go to school, so it's a very hard decision. You could try the home business and have a part time job nights when he's asleep to help out. Seriously, I have sold on eBay for nine years just for fun, but the more time I have the more I sell. There are so many people looking on there now, practically EVERYTHING has a buyer. It's a way for extra income and a way to be at home while you try to start a business, or just enjoy your son. You could make more than six bucks an hour--go to thrift stores, yard sales, buy their leftovers for a song and put it online. You'd be surprised.

Depending on what type of business your thinking about starting.
Starting your own business is a big risk. But, so is anything in life. Have a child is one of them. You did that. And I am sure that you will do your best to make sure he does the right things in life to get ahead and grow the way you hope.
There are many start your own business ideas that make you money right away, and will put food on your table.
And you may only make 6 bucks an hour at it, but if you do research and know as much about the type of business you want to start, then you are that much ahead.
It will give you peace of mind to know that, at least you won't be stuck at a 6 buck an hr. job for the rest of your life.

I would work for the next two years while still getting things together for your business. Make the money for a down payment and get your house and then start your business. You can still do it just maybe put it off for a little while longer. If you really plan and budget stuff out for your business in the next two years once you start you might see much better results. good luck
