I agree with Moriaes Fate -- it's fear. Fear of death, fear of the unknown, fear of being different from everybody else in your group. There was a time when doing and thinking exactly as you were told was the key to survival. But that was long ago, and now such conformity could kill us all. It's the ultimate tragedy.

You can call God, and you can feel something...you can have some experience because this is God's great power, and is living, and capable.
This is one of the prime reasons people believe in God...they've had some experience, felt something, maybe seen some holy Light or heard the Sound....felt this holy Spirit.
That's a little of what God Realization is about. Realizing...making real. Making God a reality in ones life through some experience.
If you couldn't get some experience in God, then yes, it would be a hard thing to convince about God's reality. But this experience you can get...you can get this taste of God.
But 1st, folks usually insist that some belief is first required. Because if you don't believe at all, you won't call.
For example, if you're feeling ill, and if someone gave you a great doctor's phone number, but you don't believe that such a great doctor could possibly exist, then of course, you won't call. Then maybe you would get well anyway, or maybe you wouldn't. So, a little faith or belief at 1st seems necessary.
But it's natural then to move beyond belief into the experiencing of God. Belief is great, but there's nicer levels beyond it.
Of course, it takes some patience, practice and waiting. My first attempts were very clumbsy like anyone else's, I suppose: "God, if you're real, then make lightening strike right now! Now!" Those kinds of attempts didn't yield much, I tell you. But in time, little by little, I was gaining patience and practicing meditation, and "praying without ceasing" and trying all such things I read in books. Eventually, I could feel something, God's response, and the experiences got richer, deeper, more real...
The feeling is generally very subtle, at 1st, and is generally missed. Maybe for no reason you just feel a little better, a little more positive, and you could think it was just some change in the weather, or your last meal was right with you. But as the experiences continue to occur, this foundation of surety--of experience--begins to happen. Eventually, you can't deny the connection of the events. The asking, the receiving....that's how it happens.

We all believe that God ( a higher being) runs our lives and that we must live for Him and his glory. Here's something really cool i learned and I thought u should ponder over. what do the muslims, jews and christians have in common?
We believe there is a God. Atheists don't believe in God because they want to believe that they run their lives.

My view is that when you are a child you will believe in what ever religion your parents believe in and it helps to believe in religion as then you really know that Santa is for real. Then when you find out that Santa isn't for real hey thats when the questions start to roll in just like pubity. Some kids can grow into adults not needing a crutch in life and function very well, others still wanna believe and thats o.k. too. Atheists tend to look inside and find themselves and their own answers, Religious people look in side and find God. As long as we dont push/ridicule/punish/mock another for what we do or not believe in Does it really matter? I dont think so......

don't you ever wonder how we got here? even if you believe in scientology and think that people evolved from apes, how did the apes get there in the first place? and if you believe in the big bang theory, well, how did all of the gases get there to form the planets? something or someone had to start it all. and people find comfort in believeing in God. He's our Father. He protects us and loves us, and that's a good enough excuse in my book to believe. Even if He wasn't real, it's so much better to just believe (I think, at least) than to feel empty (not saying that you do, but some people do)

it gives us all reason. a special meaning. In my beliefs we are all here to make our own difference in the world. i believe in no hell nor devil and i do not trust priests or bibles. I discriminate no one because of who they are or what they believe. I am not trying to get you to agree with me. i am only telling you to live your own life believing whatever you want to believe, i just happen to believe that God is my maker and in my opinion i am correct. I agree with the 2nd answerer. i believe we can all get along if we try. may you live a good life.

People believe in god because they need structure. They feel that by believing in A god or Higher power that reguardless of what they do on earth it will all be ok when they die. They are scared of dying and by believing in god its make sthem less scared of dying.
It also helps them out by inventing a way to scare people into believing. Hell for instance.
If you feel you need to believe in "soul security" go ahead. But dont do it because they tell you to. Do it because you believe.

Some people (not everyone) believe in God, after having an experience that made them believe Satan existed.
That will do it for some people.

Because mommy and daddy feed their little empty heads with misconceptions about reality when they're too young to think by themselves. It's called Brainwashing. I think it's permanent brain damage.
And besides, like Bertrand Russell said, people believe in god out of fear of death, their own death and the death of their loved ones.
Belief is a symptom of man's weaknessess and inability to deal with the real world.
Religion is the refuge of the cowards.

If you do not want to open your mind and your heart, then don't worry yourself with the question.
God is God to the world, but He is Father to those that are saved (those who accept Christ as their Savior). God is only interested in His children because he made them heir and joint-heir with Christ of the kingdom of Heaven.
I suggest to not worry yourself with something that is not part your life.
