If there was a divine being, who ACTUALLY loved you SO much that this being came down from heaven to SHOW you love and PROVE that love for you by sacrificing his life for you......would you not at least read a letter he wrote to you with the explanation of it all?

P.S. God isnt mad at you..He isnt out to get you....why show so much hate to anyone who has shown so much love?

God already has and many have still refused to believe and make up excuses to not believe. Some are like little children that don't want to listen to their parents and become little brats. That is why the Old Testament resembles a book on child psychology in some parts.
Jesus foretold that many people would have hearts that refuse to accept Him. It is just the way it is and all that you can do is pray that one day their heart, mind and eyes will open up to the truth, love and wisdom of Jesus and God the Father. Until then, feel sorry for those that scoff, for as Jesus said, ' They know not what they do."
He came to us in person and they refuse. What more could He do? He has handed them on a silver platter the best gift anyone could hope for. He has given them a personal invitation, the greatest wedding banquet there will ever be and an eternity of life. And they refuse. They would rather wallow in pig slop, and worse.

To prove a point of narrow mindedness and evil hatred in their heart, look at the thumbs down I have gotten and I haven't said one thing bad towards any one person.
The Bible tells us to witness to them and if they do not listen, leave them and have nothing more to do with them. they will one day have to face God and on that day they will have more sorrow than they can imagine.

I am sure you will be surprised at the fact that many of us have read the Bible. God did not write it, men did. I was quite surprised at how much our science knows that God didn't. I mean plants before the Sun???? That isn't even logical.

I found the Old Testament to be a horrible faerie tale and the god that was in it a tyrant. It was hardly about love. (example: 2 Kings 2:23-24) I don't think that I could follow that god even if it were true. The New Testament was somewhat better, but Jesus never made any attempt to correct the record and said over and over that the old laws still applied. So I guess that slavery and stoning were just OK with him too.

I think your whole premise is kind of sad. Love is not proved by that kind of sacrifice. I know that tragic sacrifice is considered romantic by some, but I hope someday we'll outgrow that kind of thinking.

What are your thoughts about animal sacrifice to atone for sins? The God of the Old Testament demanded these, and apparently was talked out of it by his only son, but on the condition that his son would agree to go down and be sacrificed himself?? I'm sorry, but that is no more believable to me than the story that Prometheus was chained to a rock to have an eagle peck out is liver every day because he dared to steal fire from the gods and give it to man.

I have a hypothetical question for you: what if I am right, and your belief is all based on myths that have no foundation in reality?

Your "hypothetical" question isn't very hypothetical from you point of view, is it?

Here's the thing that's slipping by you: People who don't believe in God, don't believe in God. You can present your arguments however you like, but if they start with the a priori assumption that everybody actually does believe in God and just needs a bit of gentle prodding, you are missing the boat.

People who don't believe in God don't believe that God is mad at them, nor that he is "out to get" them. They believe that God is not capable of being mad or out to get anyone in the same way that you don't believe Santa will leave you coal in your stocking at Christmas.

IF there was one, sure, I'd read a letter he wrote to me. If you're referring to the Bible, I've read it. Several times. And I don't think that God is mad at me. I don't believe there is a God. Even if I WAS mistaken, and there WAS one, I don't show him hate. I just don't believe there is a God. Not believing in God and hating God are two different things.

Well, why would he, the one who came down from heaven, care if he "sacrificed" his life again for me anyway? Wouldn't he technically just go back to heaven again for being so humble and sacrificial?
I believe your scenario means nothing because there is, in actuality, no sacrifice involved. Dying isn't the same for someone who was dead already.

Of course I would read the letter and respond. However, I need proof that the letter exists. And why do you think one could hate something he doesn't believe in? I suppose many do hate others with different beliefs, though.

Some people have hatred towards a God figure for personal reasons, (maybe someone close to them died that they felt shouldn't have, or maybe something happened to them that they believed shouldn't have, i.e. injury, injustice, etc)

Others mostly "hate" organized religion in general, not necessarily God, but the people who worship and push their ideals onto them, or place judgment because they chose not to worship with them or like them or because they happen to believe something else (like the scientific aspect of life or identifying with nature instead).

arrrgggghhhh...

Look.. that didn't happen. That hasn't happened. That won't happen. I don't believe in your god, I don't think your god exists, I don't think your god is out to get me because I don't think your god exists, I don't think your god is mad at me because I don't think your god exists, and I don't hate your god because you can't hate something that doesn't exist.

There is NO PROOF that your god exists other than a 2000 year old book written by sheepherders who believed the earth was flat. Thats not exactly something to take pride in.

Now for the billionth time on here... almost everyone that is now a nonchristian was once a Christian and decided it was all crap.

However, plenty of the followers make me want to smack them.

I don't HATE God, I just am the type of person who needs PROOF in order to believe in something. SHOW me PROOF and I will believe!
