ok, i run cross country but the season ended a while ago and i have been running all year but i am better at long distance then runs like the mile, 400 , and 800 for track
i want to track and what should i do to make myself better and im not doing it if my best friend doesnt do it

You should definitely do track, and if your friend doesn't want to do it then that is her choice. You make sooooo many friends in track so don't worry if you don't know anyone.

The only way to get better is to run more, and when you join track your coach will give you a plan of how much to run. What you can do right now is start eating very healthy so that by the time track starts, you are at a good weight and ready to run FAST! And ask your coach if you can do longer events such as the 3200.

Try the 3200, its almost like the 5k run in XC but obviously shorter and the pace is a little different.
I would do track just to keep in shape b/c most likely the people running long distance in track and the people running XC.
