I have a male cat who loves to be petted with the foot. Some times he playfully bits it, or hangs on to your foot as it goes by him with his paws. He loves to be petted on the stomach and side. Even when it isn't a change of season, when he isn't shedding, he still loves it. SHould I keep petting him like that, or pet him with my hand even though he hates it?

If he likes your foot, then use it. We do it all the time, often it's because of the scent of your foot, even when our feet are clean, they're sweating and cats seem to like it. Just be wary though, one of my cats starting doing it out of the blue and biting my toes and I couldn't work out why. I finally worked out that I had cleaned the floor with bleach that day and had been barefoot, that is what was attracting her. Bleach is really toxic to cats, they are attracted to it because they excrete sodium hypochlorite in their urine and it smells like pheremones. They can absorb it through their pawpads. I knew this and I had rinsed the floor really well but it didn't register it would be on my feet.

Having said that, if you and your cat are happy, then by all means, rub him with your foot.

There is no harm done to the cat if you pet him with your foot (as long as you don't step on him!). As since your funny kitty shows a definite preference for your foot over against your hand... give it to him! I think its adorable. I hope you love the feel of fur between your toes as much as I do! I warm my feet on my kitties' bellies and sometimes suffer a nip for my presumption.

well, if you really want to pet him with your hands instead, what you could do, is pet him with your hands, and after you can sort of reward him by petting him with your foot.

But if you dont mind petting him with your foot, go ahead, it wont hurt him any, but if he gets to biting your foot to hard or something, you could pet him with your hand since you said he hates it, that way he wont bite it cause he knows he'll get pet with your hands instead.

As long as you dont have any kind of fungis on your feet or anything, it should be fine :o) hope this helps.

Catz! Go with the flow. They do. Whatever trips their fur-brained triggers! Nothing lost, nothing gained!

Don't worry about it, if he likes it, it isn't going to hurt him at all... At least he knows what he likes!
